    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and an arrangement for burning lime mud into lime in a lime kiln The lime mud flows counter-currently to flue gases from a feed end to a firing end and the fuel used is flue gas that is produced by gasifying a fuel in the presence of combustion air in a gasifier. The combustion air for gasification is preheated with heat generated in lime mud combustion. The arrangement is provided with a conduit between the lime kiln and the gasifier for leading air from the lime kiln into the gasifier as combustion air. At least a portion of the combustion air for gasification is preheated with heat generated in the lime mud combustion so that air is led into cooling of lime obtained in the combustion and further into the kiln, from or through the firing end of which air is taken into the gasification.

Black liquor spraying devices are disposed on the furnace walls on one or several levels of the furnace. In the arrangement for the secondary air flows, at least two horizontal air levels at different elevations are arranged above the lower primary levels and below the black liquor sprayer. Secondary air is supplied from two opposite walls. The secondary air ports on each of said first and second horizontal elevations comprise air ports for each horizontal elevation that project a pattern of large air jets into the furnace from said opposite walls and said secondary air ports further comprise a plurality of secondary air ports on at least one of the elevations that project smaller air jets into the furnace.

Purified effluent in the amount of at least 1 m3/adt pulp is introduced into the dilution after the press or washing press, whereby the effluent is passed from the dilution into the first process stage of the bleaching.

Chloride-containing bleaching plant effluents are led to the effluent purification, where they are treated in order to decrease the organic matter content thereof. At least 20% of the purified effluent is returned to a pulp mill process and purified effluent is used in a last washing stage included in brown stock treatment. In the brown stock treatment the liquid flow is passed counter-currently to evaporation, wherefrom it is led for treatment to a recovery boiler process, wherein a separation process for chlorides is arranged for controlling the chloride level of the liquor cycle.

The contaminants are enriched in the vapor. From vapors contaminants are separated by absorption when bringing a contaminant-enriched vapor into direct contact with a cleaner liquid by spraying or distributing the liquid into the vapor flowing in a vapor duct or onto wall surfaces in the vapor duct thus increasing the contaminant-content of the liquid, but producing a cleaned vapor.
