  • Patent number: 11559163
Abstract: The invention provides a beverage preparation system (1) for the preparation of hot and cold beverages, which system comprises a hot beverage ingredient cartridge (2?), a cold beverage ingredient cartridge (2), and a beverage preparation device (4) adapted to prepare hot and cold beverages. According to the invention, the beverage preparation device (4) comprises a water dispensing manifold (10) for directing hot water and cold water to a dispensing location, the water dispensing manifold (10) comprising a feed lace (11), a cold water conduit (14) and a hot water conduit (16) that ends in a port (20) provided in a wall of the cold water conduit (14). The hot water conduit (16) has a cross section that is smaller than the cross section of the feed lance (11), such that a flow of hot water fed from the hot water conduit (16) into the feed lance (11) via the port (20) passes through part of the cold water conduit (14) and through the feed lance (11) without contacting them.

  • Patent number: 11517138
Abstract: The invention relates to a disposable cartridge filled with a single serve portion of a liquid ingredient to be combined with a base liquid for the preparation of a liquid product, e.g. a beverage concentrate to be combined with water, e.g. carbonated water, for the preparation of a beverage suitable for human consumption. The cartridge comprises a vertically extending channel that extends to a dispensing aperture in the bottom of the cartridge and one or more dispensing passages extending between a reservoir and the outside of the cartridge. The dispensing passages are provided with outlet openings located adjacent the aperture such that the base liquid and the liquid ingredient are dispensed in parallel flows, the liquid ingredient subsequently coating the exterior of the stream of base liquid, such that actual mixing of the liquid ingredient and base liquid only takes place after both have been dispensed.

  • Publication number: 20190274469
Abstract: The invention relates to a system, for the preparation of a liquid product, comprising a disposable cartridge (1) and a dispensing apparatus. The cartridge comprises a cartridge body (2) having a reservoir (5), one or more dispensing passages located at its bottom and a sealing film (12) that seals off the reservoir at the top of the cartridge. The cartridge further comprises piercing members (14) arranged in the reservoir so that pressing the sealing film inward causes said piercing members to locally rupture the sealing film. According to the invention, the cartridge has a droplet capture member, adjacent the sealing film and in the vicinity of the piercing members, such that when the sealing film has been ruptured the droplet capture member extends over the one or more openings in the sealing film to capture droplets of liquid ingredient exiting said openings.

  • Patent number: 9878273
Abstract: Embodiments of the technology disclosed herein include disposable filter cartridges for use with a water dispenser that dispenses hot water, flavored water, and chilled, sparkling water. An exemplary filter cartridge may be assembled by screwing or inserting a filter into filter cap until the filter cap engages a lock, such as an agnail lock, on the filter. Once engaged, the lock permanently secures the filter to the filter cap without adhesives, heat treatment, or curing. The filter cartridge includes one or more protrusions, or partial flanges, that twist into a recess formed by an injection-molded, two-piece locking assembly affixed to the water dispenser. Twisting the filter cartridge to a predetermined angle with respect to the locking assembly locks the filter cartridge into place. In some embodiments, the locking assembly and the filter cartridge audibly “click” or “snap” to indicate that they are secured together.
