Patent number: 11703426Abstract: A passive sampling device is provided that is comprised of a member having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface and a hole through the member extending from the first surface to the second surface. An adsorbent material is positioned between two mesh members. The adsorbent material allows for efficient and selective removal of organic molecules, such as, for example, perfluoroalkyl substances.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2020Date of Patent: July 18, 2023Assignee: ARCADIS U.S., INC.Inventors: Paul Edmiston, Craig Divine

Patent number: 11185901Abstract: A closed-loop system and method for heating of target contaminant zones having environmental contaminants of concern present in the groundwater and the soil by thermal conduction, and subsequent enhancements of physical, biological and chemical processes to attenuate, remove and degrade contaminants in the target contaminant treatment zones, is disclosed. The system and method collects solar or other heat and transfers the heat via a closed-loop and a set of borehole exchangers to subsurface soil in the proximity of and/or directly to the target contaminant treatment zones. The target contaminant treatment zone may comprise contaminated soil, contaminated groundwater in an aquifer, or industrial waste comprising water and/or solids. Solar collectors or heat exchangers capturing waste heat from industrial processes may be used as the heat source.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 2020Date of Patent: November 30, 2021Assignee: ARCADIS U.S., INC.Inventors: Cullen Flanders, Davinder Singh Randhawa, John LaChance, Philip W. Patent number: 11002643Abstract: An in-situ monitoring tool is provided that is compromised of a non-reactive medium, a reactive medium, or a combination thereof, contained in a water-permeable mesh. The tool is placed in an aquifer for a predetermined amount of time to allow the medium(s) to act as a substrate that collects minerals from the aquifer for analysis.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 2018Date of Patent: May 11, 2021Assignee: ARCADIS U.S., INCInventors: Shannon Ulrich, Jennifer P. Publication number: 20200179997Abstract: A process for addressing the proliferation of emerging contaminants, such as PFASs, is provided. The process employs a fluoropolymer material that has characteristics that enhance its affinity to the emerging contaminants and, thus, draws the contaminants from a liquid or solid matrix in an efficient and economical way.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 9, 2019Publication date: June 11, 2020Applicant: Arcadis U.S., Inc.Inventors: Ian Ross, Jeffrey T. McDonough, Jonathan Miles

Patent number: 7824906Abstract: The present invention is an anaerobic reactor and preferably a vertically oriented plug flow anaerobic reactor for producing methane from various organic materials. The organic materials preferably have a high organic content. The reactor includes cutting members for cutting bridged or agglomerated material within the reactor. The present invention also includes a process for producing methane from an organic feed stock by continuously charging an organic material into the top portion of a vertically oriented vessel and rotating one or more cutting members at a sufficiently slow rate so that the cutting members cut through bridged or agglomerated material but do not substantially mix contents within the reactor, anaerobically digesting the organic material under mesophilic or thermophilic conditions to produce methane while allowing the organic material to propagate downward through the vessel in a plug flow-like manner and collecting methane gas produced from the anaerobic digestion of the organic material.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 2007Date of Patent: November 2, 2010Assignee: ARCADIS U.S., Inc.Inventors: Scott Murphy, Jon Forbort, Evan Nyer, Matt Shattuck, Wes May
