Publication number: 20170281225Abstract: Surgical devices having a plurality of outwardly-biased flexible fins capable of inward movement such that the fins converge to provide both a passageway for surgical instruments to traverse towards a surgical site, and provide a substantially impermeable seal, thus providing for fluid retention during the surgical procedure. The outwardly-biased flexible fins provide for soft tissue compression, decreasing the length of the lumen or passageway through which instruments pass, allowing for a wider range of movement of instruments and better access to the surgical site, especially in patients with greater amounts of fat tissue that would otherwise require longer lumen lengths in prior art endoscopic cannulas.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 19, 2017Publication date: October 5, 2017Applicant: Arthroscopic Innovations, LLCInventor: Daniel A. Patent number: 7963983Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing a surgical repair may involve fixation of a repair material, such as a ligament or tendon in knee ligament repair procedure, to an internal cortical contact area in a bone. The cortical bone contact area may be located immediately adjacent an opening in the bone's surface through which the repair material extends. The repair material may be engaged with the contact area by way of a fixation device, such as a device that is attached to the repair material and functions as a stop member. An illustrative fixation device may include an annular portion with an aperture through with the repair material passes. The repair material may be attached to a securing portion that extends from the annular portion.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 2006Date of Patent: June 21, 2011Assignee: Arthroscopic Innovations LLCInventor: Daniel Cerundolo

Patent number: 7955341Abstract: A surgical apparatus may include a guide apparatus to be used in an arthroscopic procedure and to interact with a passageway through a body portion formed by intersecting first and second holes that may lead into the body portion from different positions, e.g., from two different locations on a bone. The guide apparatus may include first and second guide members having first and second passages, respectively, that communicate with the first and second holes. The surgical apparatus may also include a suture retriever arranged to retrieve, from the second passage, a suture fed into the first passage. A method may include forming a passageway including first and second intersecting holes. First and second guide tubes may be positioned relative to the first and second holes, a suture or suture-like material may be provided into the first guide tube, and the suture or suture-like material may be retrieved from the second guide tube.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 2007Date of Patent: June 7, 2011Assignee: Arthroscopic Innovations LLCInventor: Daniel Cerundolo

Patent number: 7833244Abstract: An apparatus and method for suture fixation. A suture fixation device includes a body having an inner end and an outer end and a pathway. A restriction may be provided in the pathway that relatively freely permits movement of a suture through the pathway in a first direction and inhibits movement of the suture through the pathway in a second direction. A suture provided in a passageway formed in bone may be secured at an opening into the passageway using a suture fixation device that has a portion positioned outside of and adjacent the opening in contact with portions of cortical bone. The suture fixation device may include a flange portion adapted to be positioned outside of and adjacent a suitably sized hole formed in tissue, such as bone. An inner end of the suture fixation device may extend from the flange portion and be positioned in the hole adjacent cancellous bone.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 2005Date of Patent: November 16, 2010Assignee: Arthroscopic Innovations LLCInventor: Daniel Cerundolo

Patent number: 7833230Abstract: An apparatus for use with a passageway in a surgical procedure includes a reference structure, and first and second guide members. The first and second guide members may be arranged in a first and second positions relative to the reference structure so that passages in the guide members are adjacent, e.g., the distal ends of the guide members may be adjacent each other. This arrangement may allow for the first and second guide members to be used in forming a passageway in a body part, such as a portion of bone, and/or may provide a passageway for passing a suture or suture-like material from the first guide member to the second guide member.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 2005Date of Patent: November 16, 2010Assignee: Arthroscopic Innovations LLCInventor: Daniel Cerundolo

Patent number: 7569059Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing a surgical repair may involve the use of a guide to form a passageway through the body portion, such as bone. In addition, or alternately, the guide may be used to provide a suture or suture-like material through a passageway, e.g., to secure to a material relative to the body portion. The passageway may be formed by first and second intersecting holes formed in the body portion. Both ends of a suture may be positioned in the passageway, and be secured relative to the body portion near one of the openings into the passageway. A straightened pathway between the first and second openings of the passageway may be formed, e.g., using a flossing operation.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 2005Date of Patent: August 4, 2009Assignee: Arthroscopic Innovations LLCInventor: Daniel Cerundolo
