Abstract: An axle assembly having an electric motor, a wheel end assembly, and a reduction gear module. The electric motor may have a rotor that is rotatable about a first axis. The wheel end assembly may be rotatable about a second axis that may be disposed above the first axis. The reduction gear module may transmit torque between the electric motor and the wheel end assembly.
Abstract: An axle assembly and a method of manufacture. The axle assembly may include a differential carrier and a bearing support wall. The differential carrier may be made of a first material. The bearing support wall may be mounted to the differential carrier and may be made of a second material. The second material may have a greater stiffness than the first material.
Abstract: An axle assembly includes a spindle to receive a drive shaft having a rotational input about an axis and a wheel hub rotatably supported by at least one roller bearing disposed on the spindle. A tire inflation system defines a spindle gas passage to route pressurized gas from an onboard source through the spindle. The tire inflation system includes a seal chamber between the spindle and wheel hub to transfer gas from the spindle to the wheel hub, and a hub gas passage in fluid communication with the seal chamber is arranged to route the pressurized gas to a tire. A lubrication system having a reservoir is located axially outboard of the seal chamber and at least one hub lubricant passage routes lubricant between the reservoir to a roller bearing located axially inboard of the seal chamber. The hub lubricant passage routes lubricant radially outward of the seal chamber.

Abstract: A differential assembly includes a first case rotatable about an axis and defining a first mounting flange having a through hole and a second case abutting the first case to define a gear nest cavity therebetween. The second case further defines a second mounting flange having a through hole and formed to mate to the first mounting flange. The differential assembly also includes a ring gear mounted to the first mounting flange and fastener extending through the through hole of both the first mounting flange and second mounting flange into a fastener hole of the ring gear. Additionally, the first mounting flange is sandwiched between the second mounting flange and the ring gear.
Abstract: A brake assembly having a retraction spring and a method of assembly. The retraction spring may extend between first and second brake pad assemblies. The retraction spring may include a coil and may have an end or tip that may be received in a hole in a backplate of a brake pad assembly.

Abstract: A brake carrier and a method of manufacture. The brake carrier may have leading and trailing brake pad abutments. The leading brake pad abutment may have an unmachined leading wall surface and an unmachined leading floor surface. The trailing brake pad abutment may have a trailing wall surface and a trailing floor surface, at least one of which may be machined.
Abstract: A drive axle system having at least one differential assembly, a first electric motor, and a second electric motor. The first electric motor and the second electric motor may be selectively connectable to the differential assembly. The first electric motor, the second electric motor, or both may provide torque to the differential assembly.

Abstract: A drive axle system having a one-way freewheel clutch. The one-way freewheel clutch is configured to transmit torque between first and second axle assembles when an interaxle differential unit is unlocked. The one-way freewheel clutch transmits torque to one of the first axle assembly and the second axle assembly when the interaxle differential unit is locked.

Abstract: An axle assembly having a shift collar and a sensor. The shift collar may be rotatable about a first axis and moveable along the first axis. The sensor may detect detection features associated with the shift collar and provide a signal that may be indicative of rotation of the shift collar about the first axis and positioning of the shift collar along the first axis.
Abstract: An axle assembly having at least one lubricant passage. A differential carrier, a motor housing, and a cover may cooperate to at least partially define a first lubricant passage that routes lubricant from an axle housing to the cover. The differential carrier, motor housing, and cover may cooperate to at least partially define a second lubricant passage that routes lubricant from the cover to the axle housing.
Abstract: An axle assembly having a variable lubricant restrictor. The variable lubricant restrictor may be mounted to a differential carrier. Lubricant that is splashed by the differential assembly may move the variable lubricant restrictor from a first position to a second position to reduce lubricant flow through a divider wall opening.
Abstract: A brake assembly having a retraction spring. The retraction spring may be mounted to a first brake pad module and a second brake pad module. The retraction spring may have an anti-rotation feature that inhibits rotation of the retraction spring. The anti-rotation feature may engage the first brake pad module.
