Patents Assigned to ASG Superconductors S.p.A
  • Patent number: 9755426
Abstract: Described herein are fault current limiters including an input terminal for electrically connecting to a power source that provides a load current, and an output terminal for electrically connecting with a load circuit that draws the load current. The fault current limiters include a magnetically saturable core including at least one coil receiving limb disposed intermediate at least two return limbs, wherein the limbs longitudinally extend between at least two yokes, and wherein the at least two yokes and the at least two return limbs define at least a portion of one or more magnetic flux return paths for the at least one coil receiving limb. The fault current limiters further includes at least one AC coil disposed about the at least one coil receiving limb for carrying the load current between the input terminal and the output terminal.

  • Patent number: 8841980
Abstract: A coil comprises a set of windings with a generally annular shape and formed by a plurality of series-connected partial windings made of a superconductor with a high critical temperature, in which these partial windings are arranged next to each other in stratified form, and at least one cooling sheet which is made of thermally conductive material and arranged in contact with this set of windings and which is designed to be connected in a thermally conductive manner to a cryogenic cooling system.

  • Patent number: 8238990
Abstract: A superconducting joint that structurally binds a first superconducting segment to a second superconducting segment. The first and second superconducting segment each include corresponding areas containing a granular superconducting substance formed by a first element and a second element. The superconducting joint includes a solid non-superconducting binding formed from a source of the first element and a source of the second element combined to produce the granular superconducting substance around the solid non-superconducting binding to permit for the flow of superconducting current through the first superconducting segment and the second superconducting segment.

  • Patent number: 8229528
Abstract: A superconducting coil comprises a plurality of windings. Each winding comprises at least one superconducting segment having an exposed area containing a granular superconducting substance. A junction electrically connects at least one superconducting segment of one winding to at least one superconducting segment of another winding. The junction is formed by coupling the granular superconducting substance of the exposed area of the at least one superconducting segment of the one winding to the granular superconducting substance of the exposed area of the at least one superconducting segment of the other winding. In an embodiment, the exposed areas are positioned to face each other.
