    Abstract: A method and template are provided for modifying an asphalt dryer/mixer that includes an outer drum and an inner drum with a plurality of mixing paddles, the two drums forming an annular mixing chamber in which asphalt cement and aggregate materials are mixed. The template comprises a bracket marking portion that is adapted to locate one or more brackets on the inner drum and a paddle reference portion that is adapted to locate the bracket marking portion with respect to a mixing paddle. A mixing paddle to be referenced for locating a bracket is selected and the template is placed on the inner drum with the paddle reference portion referencing the selected mixing paddle. The template is used to mark the location of the bracket, the bracket is affixed to the outer surface of the inner drum at the bracket location marked; and an agitation strand is attached to the bracket.

    Abstract: A foamed asphalt cement nozzle assembly is adapted for use in connection with a mixer for mixing aggregate materials and asphalt cement to make asphalt concrete. The foamed asphalt cement nozzle assembly includes a foamed cement mixing chamber, a first inlet for liquid asphalt cement and a second inlet for water, each of which is in fluid communication with the foamed cement mixing chamber. An outlet for foamed asphalt cement is also provided, which outlet is in fluid communication with both the foamed cement mixing chamber and the mixer. The invention also comprises a method for making asphalt concrete using foamed asphalt cement. The method includes introducing aggregate materials into the mixer and heating the aggregate materials to a temperature at least as high as the boiling point of water but no higher than about 285° F.

    Abstract: A burner assembly including a housing having an air inlet and a burner end, a motor, and an impeller mounted in the housing. The impeller is in fluid communication with the air inlet, in mechanical communication with the motor, and adapted to direct air from the air inlet towards the burner end of the housing. The burner assembly also includes at least one pre-mix gas injection nozzle mounted in the housing. Each of the at least one pre-mix gas injection nozzle has at least one orifice adapted to direct gaseous fuel into the housing. The burner assembly further includes a spin vane comprising at least one spin vane blade. The spin vane is mounted in the burner end of the housing and adapted to direct the flow of air in the burner end. The burner assembly still further includes a flattening screen located in the housing downstream from the impeller and an igniter mounted in the burner end of the housing.

The plant also includes a second dryer adapted to receive coarse RAP and a second burner assembly adapted to produce a burner flame and heat and dry the coarse RAP in the second dryer. The plant further comprises a pugmill adapted to receive the virgin aggregates and the RAP fines from the first dryer and the coarse RAP from the second dryer and mix the virgin aggregates, the RAP fines and the coarse RAP to produce hot mix asphalt.

    Abstract: A dust collection assembly includes a primary collection assembly and a secondary collection assembly and may be connected to a source of gas having dust entrained therein. The primary collection assembly includes a primary duct having an inlet end and an outlet end. A first apparatus is mounted within the primary duct imparts a swirling motion to the gas which enters through the inlet end of the duct. A second apparatus is located downstream of the first apparatus for removing a portion of the dust entrained in the gas. The secondary collection assembly is in fluid communication with the outlet end of the primary collection assembly, and it includes a plurality of filter bags. The dust collection assembly also includes a fan that is in fluid communication with the secondary collection assembly.

The asphalt production plant also includes a cold feed proportioning system having a plurality of cold feed bins for holding aggregate materials, with each such bin having a discharge opening through which aggregate materials may be discharged, a cold feed conveyor system that extends from beneath the discharge openings for the plurality of bins for conveying aggregate materials to the mixer and an apparatus and system for adjusting the relative proportions of aggregate materials from each of the cold feed bins that are conveyed to the mixer.

    Abstract: A latch mechanism for a small-size printer capable of performing a printing operation with a desired type on a rotatable type drum being held at a print position by impacting a hammer towards the type drum across a recording paper loaded therebetween. The latch mechanism comprises a group of type drums composed of type drums of three digits each comprising a lock groove wheel for fixing one type drum selected among three drums at a print position by one type selection operation; a group of lock levers movable between its initial non-print position and its print position, which is disposed so as to correspond to each of the type drums, and constantly biased by a lock lever spring toward the lock groove wheel to lock the type drum in a print position; and a group of lock lever holding means capable of actuating the lock lever by being attracted by an electromagnet.
