    Abstract: An improved lightweight and highly permeable proppant composition for use in increasing the productivity of a gas or oil well. The proppant composition includes equal amounts by weight of uncalcined bauxite, uncalcined shale and quartz, held together with a binder formed of wollastonite and talc in an amount of less than 10% by weight of the composition. The proppant composition has an alumina content of less than 25% by weight of the composition and a silica content of over 45% by weight of the composition.
