  • Patent number: 8319723
Abstract: A method and a system for improving the psychovisual experience of watching a display are presented. Measurements on the ambient light are performed by a sensor element, from which characteristics of the ambient light are derived. These are subsequently applied in a light-source adjustment model to determine the output of the light-source element. Moreover, a method and a system for adjusting the output of a light-source element by a feed-back loop involving the output from the light-source element and the input to a sensor element are revealed. In addition, the sensor element is also employed for adjusting the output of an electronic display by applying the results of the measurements to a preference model.

  • Patent number: 8279709
Abstract: The invention relates to an automated estimation of the position (co-ordinates) of a set of loudspeakers in a ioom Based on measured impulse responses the distances between each pair of loudspeakers are estimated, thereby forming a distance matrix, and the resultant distance matrix is used by a multidimensional scaling (MDS) algorithm to estimate the co-ordinates of each individual loudspeaker An improved co-ordinate estimation can, if desired, be derived by utilizing the stress values provided by the MDS algorithm.

  • Publication number: 20120242601
Abstract: An assembly of a display apparatus such as a TV and a remote controller, where the TV displays information from a first source such as a first TV channel while forwarding common information such as an EPG to the remote controller which displays the EPG information. The user may, on the remote controller, identify a second source, and the TV is then instructed to switch to the second source or channel. The mode of displaying the EPG information on the remote controller may be entered by rotating the remote controller, and the mode may be exited by the identification on the remote controller of the second source or a further rotation of the remote controller.

  • Patent number: 8175286
Abstract: The invention relates to simulation of sound fields in enclosures, for instance for application in listening tests, where test subjects assess the sound quality or other sound perception characteristics of the sound field. According to a specific embodiment, the system comprises a binaural synthesis portion which synthesizes sound for instance from a sound-reproduction equipment based on measured impulse responses of an actual room stored in a data base (31) and a binaural recording portion comprising a data base 32 for storing binaural recordings of other sound signals made in the room. Data from these databases are mixed (41) and reproduced by means of a headphone (39) provided with a head tracker (42) for tracking the movements of the listener's head. The invention furthermore comprises the use of cross-fading functions (36, 37) to enable the dynamic listening conditions, where the movements of the listener's head are taken into account during the simulation process.

  • Patent number: 8159616
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and corresponding system for improving the perceived visual quality of images for instance displayed on a color television screen. According to the invention, there is provided a means for carrying out histogram processing (13) for scaling an input video signal (6) such that the maximum dynamic range is utilised and where the quality of the perceived image is also optimised. According to the invention, the histogram processing (13) provides a transfer function for the image pixels to obtain enhanced image dynamics and also to provide a chrominance gain (gc) for scaling the chrominance components, when the luminance has been changed by the histogram processing. According to the invention, the histogram processing can also take variations of the ambient light into account (5).

  • Patent number: 8144883
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a system for adapting a loudspeaker to a specific listening position relative to the loudspeaker according to which method and system the acoustic power radiated by the loudspeaker is corrected by means of a correction filter inserted in the signal path through the loudspeaker, the response of said correction filter being determined by comparison between the a quantity characterising the radiated acoustic power measured at an actual listening position and a similar quantity measured at a reference listening position. According to a specific embodiment of the invention said characterising quantities are the radiation resistances measured at the actual listening position and the reference listening position respectively.

  • Publication number: 20110317075
Abstract: A TV or monitor with a sensor sensing radiation or light from the surroundings, where a controlling unit, on the basis of the sensed radiation or parameters of a video signal, frame rate converts an original video signal to an up converted video signal by determining additional images for the video signal, the additional images being determined on the basis of the determined radiation/light or parameter of the video signal in order to relatively reduce frame rate conversion generated artefacts when the radiation or light intensity is higher.

  • Patent number: 8064718
Abstract: Electronic images that are degraded by noise and data reduction, such as MPEG encoding, display artifacts in the reproduced image, such as ringing (“ripples”) and blocks (“huge pixels”), and noise in the image may be apparent as graininess. By performing image analysis, both on a frame-by-frame and pixel-by-pixel basis it is possible to identify and separate edges in the image, ringing artifacts and the boundaries between block transitions. By applying noise reduction according to the analysis, followed by sharpness enhancement, it is possible to clean up the image for further utilization.

  • Patent number: 7991175
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a system for optimizing the performance of a loudspeaker system as perceived by user. The physical part of the speaker system is adjustable which enables the speaker units to be placed in positions that imply maximal acoustical performance. This is obtained by combined means to: 1) bring the speaker in a specified position and 2) apply accordingly position dependant individual acoustical filters inserted in the signal path to each individual speaker.
