  • Publication number: 20110192818
Abstract: A closure comprising a solid colour spout and a transparent overcap is adapted to be sealed to a container neck by means of a double-sided foil. The overcap has a depending valve, which engages with the spout to hold these components together prior to assembly to the container. The spout has a flange adapted to seat on a rim of the container neck and an annular wall that is received within the container neck. The foil is welded to the flange and is also used to weld the closure to a rim of a container neck of standard threaded design. The overcap can screw to an external thread on the container neck. The primary ex-factory seal is provided by welding the assembled closure to the neck. The secondary seal is provided by the engagement of the overcap valve with the spout. The invention discloses an improved method of assembly.

  • Patent number: 7931163
Abstract: A closure for a container having a body comprises a neck and cap assembly with a foil interposed between the body and the neck and cap assembly. The neck comprises a base fitted to the body with a removable annular flange connected to a pull ring and secured to the foil. A frangible region separates the removable annular flange from the base. A plurality of depending teeth each having a saw tooth profile inclined inwardly to a centre of the base are formed in the base adjacent to or in the frangible region such that on removal of the pull ring the foil is torn by the teeth.

  • Patent number: 7878352
Abstract: Disclosed is an opening device for a foil closure can be fitted to a container body. The device comprises a spout (4) with a removable disc (10) attached to a pull-ring (12). The disc (10) is secured to the spout (4) by means of a frangible region (30). A foil (8) is sealed to a raised land (34) on a base of the disc (10). The pull ring is mounted to the disc (10) by means of legs so that it applies a force on a peninsula (50) of the disc, thereby reducing the length of the arc over which an initial pulling force is dissipated when the initial tear is being initiated reducing the force required to tear the foil (8) by up to 40%.

  • Publication number: 20100006633
Abstract: A carton fitment (2) for use in fresh packaging has a base flange (4) with an upstanding pour spout (6) adapted to be inserted through an opening in a carton such that the base flange seats inside the carton. A ring of induction heat sealing foil (10) is bonded to an exterior surface of the flange so that the fitment can be induction welded to a paperboard carton. The use of such fitments allows a carton erection and filling machine to be manufactured without the need for expensive ultrasonics welding equipment.

  • Publication number: 20090308832
Abstract: A low-cost sportscap (2) has a nozzle (6) defining a drinking orifice. The nozzle is assembled from below into an outer shell (4) which is moulded as one piece and includes an overcap (16) and a base (14). A foil annulus (8) is used to seal a coupling part (50) of the nozzle to the outer shell (4) and also preferably to provide a mechanism by means of which the closure can be assembled to a container neck (10). A primary ex-factory seal is created by a valve (42) inside the overcap engaging with the drinking orifice. This can be resealed by the user when the overcap (16) is attached to the base by hinge means (32).

  • Publication number: 20090277859
Abstract: A sealing arrangement for a plastic bottle includes a blow-molded bottle having a body and a mouth that includes an opening, an injection molded neck that includes a continuous wall that defines a top wall-opening and a bottom wall-opening. The top wall-opening provides a pour spout for liquid contained within the body of the bottle. The bottom wall-opening is fused to the mouth of the bottle so as to surround the bottle's opening. A removable flange is located generally within the bottom wall-opening and a frangible region connects the flange to the wall. A foil is secured to a side of the flange that is generally adjacent to the bottom wall-opening, and the foil is adapted to close the bottom wall-opening. A plurality of foil-cutting teeth are carried by the wall generally adjacent to the bottom wall-opening, generally adjacent to the side of the flange and generally adjacent to the foil. A pull member is secured to the flange.
