  • Patent number: 5617816
Abstract: A cooling system and a method for controlling a cooling system for an internal-combustion engine of a motor vehicle having a thermostatic valve which can be switched over from a higher control level to a lower control level. A fan is provided which is assigned to a coolant radiator and which contains a fan control circuit with a temperature comparison step which compares the ACTUAL temperature of the coolant with a desired value. When the desired value is exceeded, a temperature signal is generated which is applied to an input of an AND-element. A switching signal for the switch-over of the thermostatic valve to the lower control level is applied to the other input of the AND-element which forms a switch-on signal for the fan.

  • Patent number: 5494005
Abstract: A cooling system for an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle having an electrically heatable thermostatic valve that contains a coolant bypass valve. Below the opening temperature, the coolant bypass valve limits a flow cross section for the coolant quantity flowing through the coolant bypass to a minimal cross section which is enlarged when the opening temperature is exceeded. When a preselected temperature is reached during the warm-up operation, a control element switches on the heating element for a predetermined time period.

  • Patent number: 5482010
Abstract: In the case of a cooling system for an internal-combustion engine of a motor vehicle comprising a radiator and a thermostatic valve equipped with an electrically heatable expansion element, it is provided that, by means of three comparison stages which are connected in parallel, specifically a speed comparison stage, a load condition comparison stage and an intake air temperature comparison stage of a control, electric energy can be supplied to the expansion element of the thermostatic valve so that, depending on the demand, the temperature level of the coolant and thus of the internal-combustion engine switches from a high temperature level to a lower temperature level; that is, increases the cooling output depending on the demand.

  • Patent number: 5238185
Abstract: A thermostatic valve device for a coolant circulating system of an internal-combustion engine having a thermostatic working element which has a housing containing an expansion material and a working piston which is movable out of the housing in a moving-out direction. A valve disk and a valve seat forms a valve. The valve disk is connected to the housing. A restoring spring is coupled to the housing. An abutment supports the working piston such that, when the working piston moves out, the housing moves against the action of the restoring spring to lift the valve disk off the valve seat. The abutment is a thrust bearing. An idle path is between the abutment and the working piston. The idle path is bridged by a first part of the moving-out movement. A bypass connection bypasses the valve. A closing member is mounted on the working piston and closes and opens the bypass connection.
