  • Publication number: 20100319784
Abstract: The invention relates to a flow restrictor (1) for restricting a volume flow through a liquid line, said flow restrictor comprising a support (10) having a passage and a bent flat spring (11) attached to the support (10). The flat spring (11) comprises at least one spring tab (12) and the passage at least one opening (13), the spring tab (12) and the opening (13) having a substantially identical extension along a longitudinal direction. The spring tab (12) is designed and arranged above the opening (13) in such a manner that it increasingly rests against the support (10) with increasing differential pressure, thereby gradually making the opening (13) smaller and continuously reducing the passage within a defined pressure range. The dimensions of the opening (13) are adjusted corresponding to the size of the spring tab (12), thereby allowing a compact flow restrictor (1) which is less susceptible to dirt.

  • Publication number: 20100253270
Abstract: An actuator (1) comprises an electrical motor (10) for driving a damper (3) from a rest position to a stalled position. The damper (3) is biased toward the rest position with at least one spring. A control module (2) is configured to supply, upon activation of the actuator (1), a drive current to the electrical motor (10) for driving the damper (3) from the rest position to the stalled position against a bias force produced by the spring. The control module (2) is further configured to reduce the drive current to a lower level for maintaining the damper (3) in the stalled position when a defined duration of time has elapsed since activation of the actuator (1). Damages to the electrical motor (10) and/or gear trains can be avoided without having to provide any circuitry or sensory equipment for measuring the drive current.

  • Patent number: 7798170
Abstract: A flow setting assembly is provided to permit field adjustment of an electronically actuated flow control valve, particularly a pressure independent characterized control valve (PICCV). In a preferred form, flow can be field adjusted by using a hex tool. Therefore, the maximum flow can be increased or decreased within the valve's adjustable flow range. As with all high close-off valves that employ a ball in their design, the ball passes well into the seat when rotated to the actuator's zero-degree position. Therefore, there is an amount of travel within the first degrees of ball rotation that passes back over this seat. The flow setting assembly eliminates this excess rotation (12°) resulting in a closed position that is offset to improve control resolution and system accuracy. This offset continues to allow the high close-off rating of 200 PSI. MFT actuators electronically adjust to and maintain the 2-10 Volt control signal at the reduced angle, as well as the 100 second running time and feedback signal.

  • Publication number: 20100170272
Abstract: In an air conditioning economizer system outdoor air intake is reduced automatically by a control device based on a shut-off control setting for a measured outdoor air quality. A geographical location associated with the air conditioning economizer system is received (S2) in the control device. The control device defines automatically (S3) the shut-off control setting based on the geographical location. Thus, the air conditioning economizer system is adapted specifically for a geographic location and its climate zone, without the requirement for installing or operating personnel to determine a shut-off control setting for a specific climate zone and/or select a corresponding operating range.

  • Publication number: 20100007301
Abstract: A safety drive unit (10) with a safety circuit (12) resets a flap or a valve into a specified safety position for controlling a gas or liquid volumetric flow, in particular in the field of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) fire protection and monitoring systems. The safety drive unit (10) essentially comprises an actuator (14) with a controllable electric motor (28), a capacitive energy storage unit (20), an energy converter (22) with a power module, and a power supply (18). • Patent number: 6827100
Abstract: Simple APCV, ADPCV and PICV's are provided. The APCV's are referenced to the atmosphere and control the gauge pressure, either upstream or downstream. The ADPCV's are the same as the APCV's, differing in that they are not referenced to the atmosphere. They are instead referenced to a second point in the fluid flow system and control the differential pressure. The PICV's are control valves connected in series with ADPCV's and control the fluid flow rate through the valve independently of variations in the line pressure. A preferred APCV has a valve body (1) with connections for a single-phase fluid line and a flow passage between the inlet (2) and the outlet (3) of said fluid line, with an opening having a defined seat orifice (7) intersecting the flow passage. A moveable assembly, comprising a disk (5) or cup is connected to a pressure sensing member (4), having essentially the same effective surface area.
