Abstract: A dry film coating composition for use in coating pharmaceuticals, food, confectionery forms, agricultural seeds, and the like, comprises a cellulosic polymer, and lactose. The composition may include an optional plasticizer, and an optional pigment. A method of coating substrates such as pharmaceutical tablets, food and confectionery forms, agricultural seeds, and the like comprises mixing a cellulosic polymer and lactose into water to form an aqueous coating suspension, spraying the coating suspension onto said substrates to form a film coating on said substrates, and drying the film coating on said substrates. Optionally, a plasticizer and/or pigment may be dispersed into the aqueous coating suspension. The method of making a dry film coating composition for use in coating pharmaceutical tablets, food and confectionery forms, agricultural seeds, and the like, comprises mixing a cellulosic polymer and lactose together to form a dry film coating composition.

Abstract: A method of coating substrates such as pharmaceutical tablets, food and confectionery forms, agricultural seeds and the like, with a protective film comprises the steps of mixing a cellulosic polymer, maltodextrin, and a plasticizer into water to form an aqueous coating suspension, spraying an effective amount of said coating suspension onto said substrates to form a film coating on said substrates, and drying the film coating on said substrates. Optionally, a detackifier, a secondary film former, a flow aid, and/or a colorant may be dispersed into the coating suspension before applying the coating suspension to the substrates. A dry powder edible film coating composition for use in pharmaceuticals, food and confectionery forms, agricultural seeds, and the like, comprises a dry mixture of a cellulosic polymer, maltodextrin, and a plasticizer. Optionally, the dry coating composition may include a detackifier, a secondary film former, a flow aid, and/or a colorant.

Abstract: A method of marking forms such as pharmaceutical tablets, capsules, confectionery and food with a water based ingestible ink comprising mixing pigments, a polymer, and optionally a plasticizer into water to form an ink dispersion, and printing the ink dispersion onto said forms to form a trademark, logo, or the like.
Abstract: A polish composition for pharmaceutical tablets, food products and confectionery pieces comprises beeswax, carnauba wax, water and emulsifier. A polish composition for pharmaceutical tablet, food products and confectionery pieces comprises wax, water and an emulsifier with an HLB value of about 16 to about 17.
Abstract: A method of inhibiting fat and oil migration from an oily substrate of a food product into a coating layer of a food product, comprises the steps of mixing a shellac solution and an alcohol together to form a barrier coating solution, coating the oily substrate of the food product with an effective amount of the barrier coating solution to form a barrier coating layer of film surrounding the oily substrate, and covering the barrier coating layer of film with a coating layer of a food product.
