Abstract: A method for inhibiting foam formation in a stripper of an amine unit is disclosed. The addition of non-foaming demulsifiers to the liquid, compressed hydrocarbon stream entering or the aqueous organic amine stream entering or exiting an absorber of an amine unit effectively inhibits foam formation in the amine unit stripper. Foam formation in the stripper is inhibited by controlling the entrainment of hydrocarbon in the alkaline amine stream entering the stripper through demulsification treatment in the absorber.

Abstract: An anionic polyacrylamide pretreatment for a metal surface which enhances corrosion resistance and surface adhesion properties is described. The pretreatment is stable at extreme pH's and compatible with other water soluble polymers. The anionic polyacrylamide includes mono- or di-alkyl substitutions on the N group of the polyacrylamide.
Abstract: The polymerization of vinyl aromatic monomers such as styrene is inhibited by the addition of a composition of a stable hindered nitroxyl radical and an oxime compound.
Abstract: A method of removing layers of heat cured paint buildup on supporting hangers is disclosed. The method includes coating support hangers with a layer of a thermally expandable material in a water soluble carrier and thereafter applying a water insoluble coating layer. The thermally expandable material, the carrier and the water insoluble coating are all selected so as to be relatively unaffected by the curing temperatures of the paint line where the hangers are to be used. When an undesirably thick coating of cured paint has built-up on the hangers, it is removed by heating to a temperature sufficient to expand the thermally expandable material thereby cracking the paint layers. Thereafter, the hangers are soaked in a hot aqueous solution to dissolve the carrier layer and remove the cracked, cured paint layers.

Abstract: Methods for controlling the fouling potential of macroinvertebrates are provided. An effective controlling amount of a polymer comprising a tannin and a cationic monomer is added to an aqueous system suffering from the fouling potential of macroinvertebrates.
Abstract: A method for removing ferric-ferrous oxides from a liquid containing ferric-ferrous oxides and ferrous ions and to a method for determining the amount of ferrous ion in a liquid. The invention has particular utility for use in a method to accurately determine the corrosion rates of ferrometals in contact with aqueous liquids by filtering ferric-ferrous oxides from the aqueous liquid prior to determining the ferrous ion content of the aqueous liquid.
