    Abstract: A rotary bleed valve (10) for a gas turbine engine comprises a passage (11) connecting high pressure gases from a compressor to an exhaust and a valve member (12), the valve member (12) may be rotated within the passage (11)so as to vary or if necessary block the flow of compressor gases. The valve member (12) is shaped such that as the member (12) moves from a closed to an open position gas flows around the member (12) induces a torque on the member (12).
