Patent number: 10590055Abstract: A method of producing a solid glycerol derived material includes the steps of combining glycerol with a metal oxide, the glycerol having a water content of between about 5 and 50%, and the rate of combination of the glycerol and the metal oxide and the amount of the metal oxide being selected so that at least part of the water present in the glycerol reacts with the metal oxide in an exothermic reaction and at least part is driven off by heat produced in the exothermic reaction to produce the solid glycerol derived material.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 2014Date of Patent: March 17, 2020Assignee: BIO-ENERGY INGREDIENTS LIMITEDInventors: Richard Alwyn Houseman, Abraham Christo Venter

Publication number: 20140106008Abstract: The invention discloses the use of a treatment composition for preventing, or reducing, the production of contaminants selected from microorganisms and microorganism-produced toxins by contacting the substrate with the composition. The composition comprises a water glycerol mixture and calcium hydroxide in which the percentage by mass of glycerol in the water glycerol mixture is between 5% and 95%, at least some of the calcium hydroxide is dissolved in the water glycerol mixture and the concentration of the dissolved calcium hydroxide in the water glycerol mixture is at least 1.5 times higher than the maximum concentration of dissolved calcium hydroxide which can be obtained in water alone, thereby preventing or reducing the production of the contaminants. The extent of the prevention or reduction is at least 1.5 times more than the corresponding prevention or reduction produced by a treatment composition comprising water and calcium hydroxide only.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 21, 2012Publication date: April 17, 2014Applicant: BIO-ENERGY INGREDIENTS LIMITEDInventor: Abraham Christo Venter

Publication number: 20120009280Abstract: A method of producing an animal feed product from a wet biological material, having a physical form selected from solutions, suspensions, emulsions, gums, mousses, sludges, slurries, and particulate materials, includes the step of combining the biological material with a base comprising a metal oxide in an amount which is sufficient to heat the biological material to a temperature of above 50° C. by reaction of water in the biological material with the metal oxide to produce the animal feed product. The product has a physical form which is easier to handle than that of the wet biological material and is selected from particulate materials and, granular materials. The base is preferably calcium oxide.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 12, 2010Publication date: January 12, 2012Applicant: Bio-Energy Ingredients LimitedInventors: Richard Alwyn Houseman, Abraham Christo Venter
