  • Patent number: 10132317
Abstract: A scroll compressor includes a housing and scroll compressor bodies disposed in the housing. The scroll bodies include first and second scroll bodies. The first and second scroll bodies have respective bases and respective scroll ribs that project from the respective bases. The scroll ribs mutually engage, such that the second scroll body is movable relative to the first scroll body for compressing fluid. An oil return tube delivers oil from an upper region of the housing to an oil sump in a lower region of the housing. The relatively longer portion is positioned substantially vertically within the housing. The relatively longer tubular portion is non-circular and may have at least one stepped portion which corresponds to a step in the interior surface of the housing. In some embodiments, the oil return tube has a short tubular portion attached at one end to a relatively longer tubular portion.

  • Patent number: 9951772
Abstract: A scroll compressor includes scroll compressor bodies, which, in turn, include a fixed scroll compressor body and a moveable scroll compressor body. The scroll compressor bodies have respective bases and respective scroll ribs that project from the respective bases, and which mutually engage about an axis for compressing fluid. The scroll compressor also includes a housing to house the scroll compressor bodies. A separator plate is configured to separate a high-pressure gas chamber from a low-pressure gas chamber within the housing. The separator plate has no machined surfaces, and has an outer perimeter portion which is attached to an unmachined inner surface of the housing. Having no machined surfaces indicates that no material is removed from the separator plate during its manufacture apart from operations to form initial inner and outer diameters of the separator plate.

  • Patent number: 9939179
Abstract: A refrigeration system includes a plurality of compressors connected in series with each other. Each compressor has an oil sump located in a gravitational bottom of the compressor. A common supply line supplies refrigerant and oil to each of the plurality of compressors. The plurality of compressors includes a lead compressor and one or more non-lead compressors. The common supply line is configured to return more oil to the lead compressor than to the one or more non-lead compressors. Oil sump pressures for the plurality of compressors are maintained such that the lead compressor has the highest oil sump pressure, and the oil sump pressures of the non-lead compressors are successively lower with respect to its position downstream of the lead compressor. As a result, oil is distributed between adjacent compressors from the lead compressor, which is a most upstream compressor, sequentially downstream to the one or more non-lead compressors.

  • Patent number: 9890784
Abstract: A fixed scroll compressor body includes a scroll compressor body casting. The casting has a central body portion having a plate-like base with a spiral scroll rib projecting from the base at a right angle thereto. The spiral scroll rib includes a volume between the spiraled ribs for the compressing of refrigerant. The spiral scroll rib spirals from a central region of the plate-like base to an outer wall of the central body portion. The casting further includes a first inward-protruding portion that protrudes from the outer wall into the volume. A distance that the first inward-protruding portion protrudes into the volume is greater than a thickness of the first inward-protruding portion such that removal of the first inward-protruding portion results in a first intake opening in the outer wall. The first intake opening provides a path for a flow of refrigerant into the volume.

  • Patent number: 9856874
Abstract: A scroll compressor that includes a housing and scroll compressor bodies disposed in the housing. The scroll bodies include a non-orbiting scroll body (also referred to as “fixed”) and a moveable body, where scroll bodies have respective bases and respective scroll ribs that project from the respective bases. The scroll ribs are configured to mutually engage, and the movable scroll body orbits relative to the fixed scroll body for compressing fluid. A pilot ring engages a perimeter surface of the fixed scroll body to limit movement of the fixed scroll body in the radial direction. A simplified holding plate prevents rotation between the pilot ring and the fixed scroll body.
