Abstract: A coiled tubing connector having a body and a plurality of entry or transition sections connected to the body wherein the connector has a low cycle fatigue life of at least 30%, more preferably at least 50% of the coiled tubing. A preferred embodiment contains two shoulders that form an annular void, a plurality of centralizers about an exterior of the body, and/or a plurality of elastomer molds separating the centralizers. The connector is preferably longer than the connectors of the prior art and is a composite of fluoroplastics or aluminum alloys.
Abstract: A composition for inhibiting or preventing the formation of emulsions and asphaltic sludges in the presence of treating acids during the acid stimulation of hydrocarbon wells is provided. The composition includes an alkyl aryl sulfonic acid or salt thereof, an acetylenic alcohol, an alkyl diphenyl oxide sulfonic acid or derivative thereof, in an alkyl alcohol solvent. The disclosed compositions can be used in an acid treatment solution, such as 15% hydrochloric acid, to prevent and resolve live acid and spent acid emulsions for a wide range of crude oils.
Abstract: In some embodiments, a method of delivering at least one chemical into an underground well equipped with a reciprocating plunger includes retaining the plunger above the well after the well is unloaded and shut in, dispensing at least one chemical into the well and releasing the plunger so that the plunger may drop in the well after the chemical(s).
Abstract: An improved well completion system for completing two or more separate production zones in a well bore during a single downhole trip is disclosed. The improved completion system comprises a completion assembly comprising two or more production zone assemblies and a completion tool assembly. Each production zone assembly may comprise an automatic system locating assembly and at least two inverted seal systems for sealing against the tool assembly.
Abstract: A bottom hole assembly connected to coiled tubing to create an acid tunnel in a wellbore formation. High pressure acid is pumped down the coiled tubing and out a nozzle located at the end of the bottom hole assembly. The bottom hole assembly includes a first reversible knuckle joint and a second reversible knuckle joint to properly position the nozzle against the wellbore and to allow the assembly to adjust its angle as it initiates and moves through the lateral tunnel. The two reversible knuckle joints increases the radius of curvature of the bottom hole assembly while providing a sufficient attack angle for the nozzle against the wellbore. The two knuckle joints may be adjusted in response to loads applied on the assembly as the assembly moves through the lateral tunnel.

Abstract: Fluid producing or injecting wells may be treated with a water-in-oil emulsion for the removal or inhibition of unwanted particulates, including pipe dope, asphaltenes and paraffins. In addition, such emulsions are effective in the displacement of oil base drilling muds and/or residues from such muds from wells. The emulsion may also be used to break the interfacial and/or rheological properties of oil base mud and synthetic oil base mud filter cakes, and act as a demulsifier to break the water-in-oil emulsion present in such oil base and synthetic oil base muds. The water-in-oil emulsions may optionally contain a dispersing agent as well as a surfactant.

Abstract: A hydraulic sleeve valve is disclosed that comprises a bypass relief system that provides an indication that the valve has reached a predetermined position, such as, for example, the fully opened or fully closed condition. The bypass relief may also provide a valve control fluid circulation function to filter or otherwise manipulate the control fluid. Also disclosed are flow port alignment systems that maintain the valve flow ports in predetermined relationships.

Abstract: A downhole device used to divert fluid flow out of a work string. The downhole device may be located at any point along a work string at which it may be necessary to divert the fluid flow to the annulus. The downhole device may be activated and deactivated by inserting a single deformable dart into the work string. The device catches the dart blocking fluid flow through the work string. Increased fluid pressure activates the device, which diverts the fluid flow out of the work string into the annulus. A locating sleeve with a continuous j-track allows the device to be retained in activated position. The dart is adapted to deform under a predetermined amount of fluid pressure allowing the dart past the device and returning fluid flow through the work string. The downhole device may be activated multiple times without removing the downhole device from the wellbore.

Abstract: A method of acidizing a subterranean formation with a diverting agent composed of a gelled or thickened viscoelastic foam or fluid generated from (i.) an amidoamine oxide gelling agent and (ii.) an acid or foam, water and/or brine. The gelled or thickened foam or fluid may be generated in-situ or introduced directly into the formation by mixing of the amidoamine oxide gelling agent and acid or foam, water and/or brine. As the acid spends, the acidizing fluid thickens. When the acid is further spent, the fluid viscosity declines eventually returning to a low viscosity state, allowing for easy cleanup. The process allows for selective acidizing of less permeable zones of the formation and more uniform stimulation of the hydrocarbon bearing formation.

The composition includes an alkyl aryl sulfonic acid or salt thereof, an acetylenic alcohol, an alkyl diphenyl oxide sulfonic acid or derivative thereof, in an alkyl alcohol solvent. Abstract: An upper-completion single trip system is described which includes a hydraulic internal seal receptacle assemble. The HISR assembly includes an overshot assembly selectively connected to a mandrel assembly. Once fully actuated, relative axial motion therebetween is allowed, which provides a spacer apparatus for the tubing above and below the HISR assembly. A shearable anchor latch as well as an indexing mule shoe are also provided in the HISR system, which allow multiple completion steps to be performed in a single trip. The HISR system is particularly well-suited for installation of permanent downhole gauges or intelligent systems—installations where rotation of pipe is prohibited. The system is also particularly well-suited for submersible pumps. A method of performing multiple completion activities in a single trip is also described.

Abstract: A step ratchet mechanism that allows for the incremental movement of an assembly that may be adapted to incrementally open or close an adjustable orifice. The step ratchet mechanism may be comprised of a modified body lock ring that permits incremental movement along a mandrel in either direction along the mandrel. The step ratchet mechanism may be actuated a designated distance by the application of pressure to the mechanism. The step ratchet mechanism may be ideal for using pressure to drive a downhole multi-position device. The modified body lock ring is adapted to both secure the mechanism at each set position as the mandrel is pumped down as well as allowing the mechanism to ratchet when the mandrel is pumped back.
Abstract: A mechanical flow control device is provided that allows flow of production fluids along an annular path and across an valve body. A sliding sealing member can be mechanically transitioned between an opened flow position and a closed flow position as desired. The mechanical flow control device may be combined with one or more interventionless flow control devices.

An example of such an expandable material is a polymer encapsulated chemical that expands upon heating. Examples of cement compositions containing polymer encapsulated isobutane or isopentane are disclosed. The use of cement compositions containing an expandable material can reduce the formation of micro-annulus or other deleterious physical properties in the set cement.
