Patent number: 11538554Abstract: Nick-based methods, devices, and systems for nick-based data storage in a deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) sequence are disclosed. Digital information is encoded in a register of at least one copy of a double-stranded DNA sequence having a plurality of nickable positions. The data is translated into a sequence of values from a nick alphabet that is subsequently mapped to the plurality of nickable positions, and the DNA sequence is nicked according to the mapped values. Because the digital information is encoded as a series of nicked and non-nicked positions of a double-stranded DNA sequence, the nucleotide sequence of the DNA can be non-synthetic, or “native” DNA.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 2018Date of Patent: December 27, 2022Assignee: THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE UNIV OF ILLINOISInventors: Olgica Milenkovic, Alvaro Gonzalo Hernandez, Seyed Kasra Tabatabaei, Huimin Zhao

Publication number: 20030001712Abstract: A raised on-chip planar inductor. An inductor is fabricated on a substrate. The inductor, except for an anchoring extremity, is lifted from the substrate, preferably by application of a magnetic field to a magnetic layer formed on the inductor. The lifting of the inductor deforms a plastic bending region. After the magnetic field is removed, the inductor remains raised with respect to the substrate.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 23, 2002Publication date: January 2, 2003Applicant: The Board of Trustees of the Univ. of IllinoisInventors: Jun Zou, Chang Liu, Jose Schutt-Aine

Patent number: 5412144Abstract: The present invention is directed to organic materials that have the ability to double or triple the frequency of light that is directed through the materials. Particularly, the present invention is directed to the compound 4-[4-(2R)-2-cyano-7-(4'-pentyloxy-4-biphenylcarbonyloxy)phenylheptylidene) phenylcarbonyloxy]benzaldehyde, which can double the frequency of light that is directed through the compound. The invention is also directed to the compound (12-hydroxy-5,7-dodecadiynyl) 4'-[(4'-pentyloxy-4-biphenyl)carbonyloxy]-4-biphenylcarboxylate, and its polymeric form. The polymeric form can triple the frequency of light directed through it.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 1994Date of Patent: May 2, 1995Assignee: The Board of Trustees of the Univ. of IllinoisInventors: Samuel I. Patent number: 4972196Abstract: A planar antenna is described which comprises a sandwich like structure of a radiating patch, ground plane and transmission feed line. Capacitive means connect the path to the feed line through a rectangular aperture in the ground plane. The energization of the feed line excites radiating modes in both the aperture and the space between the radiating patch and ground plane thereby resulting in an improved impedance bandwidth.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1987Date of Patent: November 20, 1990Assignee: Board of Trustees of the Univ. of IllinoisInventors: Paul E.
