Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus and a method for automatically closing envelopes. The apparatus contains a transport means for moving the envelopes in a transport direction, and a means for automatically folding back and closing an envelope flap. To enable accurate and reliable closing even of tightly filled envelopes even in a continuous operation duty, the means for automatically folding back and closing the envelope flap comprises several rotors which are rotatable in the transport direction of the envelopes and are movable, by means of a drive, in a manner which is transverse to the transport direction of the envelopes.

Abstract: A paper-handling unit serves for generating groups of items, wherein each group includes a plurality of items. The paper-handling unit includes at least one input channel for receiving the items, a portion to generate groups from the received items, a drive-out station for driving out a generated group, a detector detecting predetermined features from the items of a driven-out group, and a controller. The controller is operable to determine whether a predetermined event has occurred to drive the drive-out station to drive out a group if the predetermined event has occurred, to determine whether information was obtained from the detector during a predetermined interval, to stop the paper-handling unit if no information was obtained from the detector during the predetermined interval, and to stop the paper-handling unit if information was obtained from the detector during the predetermined interval which indicates that the driven-out group does not meet at least one predetermined criterion.

Abstract: In a method and an apparatus for providing a card carrier for bringing it together with a card, the card is initially provided, and card data are acquired from it. On the basis of this card data, a card-carrier blank having a first identification mark is provided. On the basis of the card data, predetermined data and a second identification mark associated with the predetermined data are printed onto the card-carrier blank so as to form the card carrier. Subsequently, the first and the second identification marks are acquired by the card carrier to determine whether the data applied and the blank belong together. If it is determined that the data and the card-carrier blank belong together, the card carrier is provided for bringing it together with the card.

Abstract: A device for cutting a paper web in a transverse direction includes a first continuously driven conveyor for moving the paper web through the device, a loop forming station, a cutting device, a clamping device for temporarily retaining the paper web, and a second conveyor for moving the paper web further after it is stored. The second conveyor includes a continuously driven transport roller and pressure rollers that are intermittently pressed onto the transport roller. The clamping device and the lifting device are driven in step with the cutting device so that the paper web is retained by the clamping device and the pressure rollers are lifted from the transport roller while the paper web is cut. The lifting device controls and lifts the pressure rollers of the second conveyor from the transport roller shortly before the paper web is stretched when the loop is undone.

Abstract: A buckle folder machine includes two or three folder pockets and several folding rollers mounted in a folding block which can be detached from the machine frame. The sheets are fed to the folding block via transport devices along an input plane in the direction of travel of the paper and delivered along an output plane in the same direction. The input plane and output plane are situated on substantially the same plane. The folding rollers and machine pockets are arranged in the folding block in such a way that the sheet input and sheet output are also situated in the area of this common plane in line with the position in which the folding block is mounted inside the machine frame. All folding rollers are connected to each other in the folding block via coupling gear wheels positioned on either end of each folding roller.
