Patent number: 8580172Abstract: A method apparatus and product is provided which includes the use of an S-Tile mold, combined with a scoring/knifing process, which allows for subsequent controlled separation of what would normally be an S-Tile into two separate tile sections each having a general C-shaped cross section. This allows for two types of tiles (S-tiles and Two-Piece Mission tiles) to be made from one type of mold (S-tile). A method, apparatus and product is also provided which includes the use of an S-Tile mold, including or combined with a scoring, knifing, or forming process for providing a channel or other suitable shape, which allows for an S-Tile to be produced which appears to be two separate but cooperating tile sections having a general C-shaped cross section. The longitudinal channel 9 or other shape and or proximate area may also be painted, colored, or otherwise darkened in order to accent a “shadow” effect which causes the eye to better perceive separation of the two portions 6 and 7 of the tile 5.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2007Date of Patent: November 12, 2013Assignees: Monier, Inc., Boral Lifetile Inc.Inventors: Troy Simmons, Bruce E. Publication number: 20120227352Abstract: A method is provided for installing a ventilated eaves closure and tile support apparatus along the eaves of a roof. A vented eaves closure apparatus is disposed along the eaves to support the first course of roof tiles at a desired pitch. The apparatus provides support, ventilation, and drainage, while also providing a barrier to wind-driven precipitation, bird nesting, and animal invasion. The apparatus includes an array of openings configured to allow drainage and facilitate the flow of air beneath the tiles and throughout the air space between the roof deck and the tiles. The method and apparatus can be adapted to fit a variety of roof types and roof tiles having different sizes, shapes, and profiles.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 17, 2012Publication date: September 13, 2012Applicant: BORAL LIFETILE, INC.Inventors: Kevin Austin, Jerry Vandewater

Patent number: 7877957Abstract: Various embodiments of the invention are directed to a method for installing an elevated batten system that includes a horizontal batten strip to which cylindrical-shaped pads are coupled. The pads elevate the horizontal batten strip above the roof deck surface, preventing water and debris from gathering on the roof deck surface and eliminating the need to install the vertical and horizontal battens in separate steps. Other various embodiments of the invention are directed to an elevated batten system that includes a horizontal batten strip to which pads are coupled that define a depressed portion. The depressed portion receives a fastener for coupling each pad to the horizontal batten strip, and in some embodiments, prevents irregularities in the height of the horizontal batten strip relative to the roof deck surface when installed on the roof deck surface.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 2010Date of Patent: February 1, 2011Assignees: Boral Lifetile, Inc., Monier, Inc.Inventor: Gerald Charles Vandewater, Jr.

Publication number: 20030233800Abstract: An elevated batten system according to the present is designed to eliminate the need to install the vertical and horizontal battens in separate steps. By attaching pads or blocks to the underside of the horizontal battens during assembly, the function of the vertical strips is contained in the resulting batten assembly itself.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 18, 2003Publication date: December 25, 2003Applicants: Monier, Inc., Boral Lifetile, Inc.Inventor: Gerald C.
