  • Patent number: 6560825
Abstract: A webbing length adjustor adapted to clamp webbing when tension is applied to a tension end of the webbing. The adjustor has a webbing guide, a clamp element pivotally mounted on the webbing guide, a locking cam on the clamp element which in a locked position clamps the webbing between the locking cam and the webbing guide to prevent movement of the webbing through the adjustor when tension is applied, a release actuator, and a projection on the clamp element that abuts against the webbing between the locking cam and the tension end thereof so that the webbing exerts a force against the projection which urges the clamp element in a direction that holds or moves the locking cam in or into a locked position. The projection is adapted to always slightly deflect the webbing, even when the clamp element is in its locked position.

  • Patent number: 5746478
Abstract: A reclining mechanism for a child safety seat used in motor vehicles that enables the safety seat to be used in both a forward and rearward facing position. The reclining mechanism comprises a seat (11), a base member (15) to which the seat (11) is attached, a connection (19, 22) between the seat (11) and base member (15) that allows movement of the seat (11) with respect to the base (15). The movement comprises a first range of reclining movement where the seat (11) is able to move between an upright position and a first recline position, and a second range of reclining movement where the seat further moves between the first reclined position and a second reclined position. A stop (33) prevents the seat (11) moving from the first reclined position into the second range of reclining movement. The stop (33) requires manual operation or manipulation of the seat (11) to allow release of the seat (11) into the second range of reclining movement.

  • Patent number: 5722720
Abstract: This invention relates to a child safety seat 10 for use in a vehicle seat 18. The child safety seat 10 has an anti-rebound protection. The safety seat 10 comprises a seat and back rest portion 11 and 12 for seating an infant, at least one base member 19 on the safety seat 10 that supports it when placed on a surface such as a vehicle seat and an anti-rebound support 20 attached to the safety seat 10 so that when the safety seat 10 is used in a rearward direction on a vehicle seat 18 the anti-rebound support 20 is moved to a first position where it extends above the seat portion 12 of the child safety seat 10 and abuts against the backrest of the vehicle seat 18 thereby restraining rebound movement. The anti-rebound support 20 is movable to a second position where it is stowed beneath the safety seat 10 so that it is clear of the base member 19 and any surface that the base member 19 is resting on.

  • Patent number: 5630645
Abstract: A safety seat 10, for use in a vehicle, where the safety seat 10 comprises a seat portion 19a, a backrest 19 having a head end remote from the seat portion 19a, a first and second mutually spaced anchorage locations 15 and 15a on the head end of the backrest 19, a connector 12 for engagement with a securement point on a vehicle, the connector 12 having a strap opening, a tether strap 11 extending in a loop from the first anchorage location 15, through the strap opening of the connector 12, to a second anchorage location 15a, and a length adjustor 13 or 13a for adjusting the length of the tether strap 11 loop. This provides a tether strap 11 suitable for use with the safety seat 10 in either a rear or forward facing position. Another significant advantage is having the adjuster 13 or 13a in line with the tether strap 11 to significantly reduce the effective length between the backrest 19 and the securement point on the vehicle.
