  • Patent number: 9565120
Abstract: A method for deep-packet inspection of packets flowing through an end unit in a point-to-multipoint network. The method comprises classifying packet flows through the end unit using their flow-identification (ID) to determine which of the packet flows should be deep-packet inspected, wherein the packet flows include incoming packets received from a central unit and outgoing packets sent to the central unit of the point-to-multipoint network; duplicating packets determined to be deep-packet inspected; saving all duplicated packets in a memory; upon collection of a predefined number of duplicated packets belonging to a certain flow-ID, performing deep-packet processing based on at least one deep-packet inspection application; and saving the deep-packet processing results in the memory.

  • Patent number: 9565471
Abstract: A media playback device may be operable to determine whether replacement media content corresponding to at least a portion of a received broadcast media stream is available during reception of the broadcast media stream from one or more broadcast sources. At least some of the replacement media content may then be retrieved when personal video recording (PVR) operations are requested during play of the received broadcast media stream, to enable seamless performance of the requested PVR operations using at least a portion of the retrieved replacement media content. Exemplary PVR operations may comprise pausing, fast forwarding, and/or rewinding. The replacement media content may be retrieved from a plurality of local and/or remote replacement servers. Availability of replacement media content, from remote replacement servers, may be determined based on programming data in said broadcast media stream, routing information provided by a broadcast source, and/or by inquiry via one or more cataloguing servers.

  • Patent number: 9565548
Abstract: Methods and systems for enabling coexistence of multiple potentially interfering wireless components in a device are provided. A device may include a wireless module using a proprietary protocol and one or more modules using standardized protocols. The device further includes a coexistence arbitration module configured to arbitrate access to a shared communication medium among the wireless modules based on assertion of medium access requests by the modules and the associated priority of the asserted medium access requests. When multiple medium access requests have the same priority, precedence for access to the shared medium is determined based on additional criteria. The coexistence arbitration module may be a separate module or may be integrated into another module or distributed among the modules. The device may include a host processor for altering transmission characteristics of a module to increase the likelihood that another module can receive data within a reasonable time period.

  • Patent number: 9559833
Abstract: A first near field communication (NFC) device is disclosed that synchronizes a first carrier wave of the first NFC device to a second carrier wave of a second NFC device. The first NFC device observes a magnetic field having the first carrier wave modulated with information corresponding to the first NFC device and the second carrier wave modulated with information corresponding to the second NFC device. The first NFC device isolates the information corresponding to the second NFC device from the combined sequence of information to determine a frequency error and/or a phase error between the carrier waves. Finally, the first NFC device adjusts the frequency of the first carrier wave in accordance with the first frequency error and/or the phase of the first carrier wave in accordance with the first phase error to synchronize the carrier waves.

  • Patent number: 9560366
Abstract: In some aspects, the disclosure is directed to methods and systems for encoding and sharing media clips via a social networking provider responsive to a user interaction via a single “like” or “share” button. Media may be constantly buffered as the user watches the program, such that the user need not initiate recording, enabling the user to quickly share amusing or media clips as they happen live. The device may decode, scale or subsample, and compress or re-encode the media to take up less space in a buffer of the device and/or to comply with copyright fair use requirements. Responsive to the user interaction or “share” command, the device may transfer the contents of the buffer to a social media service along with instructions to generate a post to the social network identifying the user, media, and/or buffer contents.

  • Patent number: 9560609
Abstract: Embodiments of this disclosure include methods in which spurs generated by the drifting of an oscillation frequency of an oscillation signal provided by a free-running oscillator may be minimized and/or eliminated from an output signal of a phase locked loop (PLL). Methods include minimizing the mixing gain between the oscillation signal and a power signal provided to the PLL. The oscillation signal and the power signal may be mixed in a phase frequency detector (PFD) included in the PLL. The minimizing of the mixing gain for the PFD also minimizes the degrading effect that the spurs have on the overall performance of the communications device. The mixing gain may be minimized by minimizing the impedance provided at nodes included in the PFD where the oscillation signal and the power signal mix. The mixing gain may also be minimized by maximizing the power supply rejection ratio for the PFD.

  • Patent number: 9559713
Abstract: An analog-to-digital converter (ADC) is used for dynamic tracking nonlinearity correction. The correction employs an analog sampling technique to determine the signal derivative by measuring the derivative current arising from sampling an analog input signal undergoing analog-to-digital conversion, at the sampling instant. The analog derivative sampling technique achieves significant reduction in power consumption with less complexity compared with a digital approach, with strong improvements in HD3, SDFR, and IM3 measures.

  • Patent number: 9560595
Abstract: A communication device, such as a smart phone, receives operational parameters from a network controller. The operational parameters may include, as examples, bandwidth allocation, center frequency, and receive/transmit band assignments. The operational parameters (e.g., bandwidth allocation) may change on a subframe by subframe basis. In response to the operational parameters, the communication device determines a new configuration for an envelope tracking (ET) power supply. The communication device modifies the ET power supply to implement the new configuration. The new configuration may be chosen to adapt the ET power supply to meet the demands of the operation parameters, without excess power consumption.
