Abstract: The invention relates generally to treatments of disordered bony structures, in particular to vertebroplasty compositions and methods and, more specifically, to treating vertebral bodies in living creatures, in particular, human beings and also compositions suitable for use in such methods and preparation and use of such compositions. According to the invention the composition to be used is an addition curable polysiloxane system.

Abstract: A method of preparing a hydrogel wound covering from polymers by irradiation cross-linking is disclosed. An initial aqueous solution comprising at least 15% of a synthetic polymer cross-linkable by irradiation, at least one humectant, a natural polymer and water, is poured into a mould for shaping. Then the initial aqueous solution is allowed to mature in the mould during a period of time sufficient to obtain a semi-product having at least a content of 35% of synthetic polymer. Thereafter the semi-product thus shaped is removed from the mould and subjected to irradiation in order to cross-link and sterilize the semi-product. A hydrogel wound covering is also disclosed.
Abstract: A device (10) for preparing and ejecting polymeric cement made from at least two pre-packaged components comprises a tubular vessel (12) including a first axial end wall (14) having a closed outlet (16), and a second axial end wall (18) having an aperture (20). A first starting component (50) of the polymeric cement is present inside said tubular vessel near the first axial end wall (14) A shaft (22) extends through said aperture (20) of the second axial end wall (18). A piston element (34) comprises a closed container (36) filled with a second starting component (46) of the polymeric cement. The piston element (34) is selectively lockable to the shaft (22). The container has a bore (38) and is slidingly engaged upon said shaft. An agitator element (24) is secured to one end of the shaft (22).

Abstract: Vertebroplasty compositions and methods are provided. By providing an elastic form stable material which is capable of being delivered directly to a specific desired location within a living creature and provides increased strength and rigidity to the injected location, disorders of the vertebrae of a living creature, for example disorders derived from osteoporosis, are able to be effectively treated. In a method embodiment, elastic form stable material is injected directly into a vertebral body to reinforce and strengthen the vertebral body. Other embodiments are also claimed and described.
