  • Patent number: 4795972
Abstract: A digital measuring method an apparatus for displaying quasi-analog measured values performs the steps of displaying a measurement scale and interconnected triggerable indicator segments on a display having a given indicator center distance, representing a measured value to be indicated by the position of the indicator segments, controlling the resolution of the quasi-analog measured value display in dependence of the number of indicator segments triggerable within a measurement period to be represented, setting the resolution substantially lower than a resolution with which an A/D converter connected to the display operates, and subjecting a control command for triggering an actual indicator segment to a hysteresis, which assures that a switchover from a previous indicator segment to an actual indicator segmet does not take place until the actual measured value has increased or decreased by substantially more than one-half the given indicator center distance.

  • Patent number: 4621524
Abstract: Test stands for automotive vehicles at the present are required in most cases to permit dynamic tests wherein an essential criterion consists of the simulation of the actual vehicle inertia moment, in order to obtain a realistic acceleration behavior. The test stand normally has a constant inertia moment. A process and a circuit layout is proposed for the simulation of vehicle inertia moments, whereby the test stand and the test specimen represent a n-mass oscillator, the masses of which are elastically joined together. By means of electronic functional elements (24, 25, 27, 32, 33, and 34), an m number of further masses are imitated electronically so that the regulation technical structure corresponds to the differential equation system of a (n+m) mass system. An air gap moment controlled electric machine is used as the transmission element (34) between the electric functional elements (24, 25, 27, 32, 33, and 34) and the mechanical masses. By setting the time constants (T.sub.Kfz, T.sub.

  • Patent number: 4452870
Abstract: The invention relates to an electrochemical storage cell on the basis of alkali metal and chalcogen, particularly sodium and sulfur. The storage cell has an anode space for receiving the anolyte and a cathode space for receiving the catholyte. The two spaces are separated from each other by a cup-shaped solid electrolyte. The solid electrolyte is surrounded in the region of the anode space by a capillary structure over the entire length. The capillary structure has at least one widened portion which is formed by an outward-pointing bulge of the capillary structure. The widened portion extends over the entire length of the capillary structure. Each widened portion is traversed in its interior by a canal. The cylinder surface of this canal is formed by a metal screen. The entrance opening of this canal is directly adjacent to the exit opening of a supply container for the sodium.

  • Patent number: 4032285
Abstract: A method for automatically controlling the air ratio of a combustion process by adjustment of the fuel-air mixture as function of the air number, the air number of the exhaust gas being measured with a sensor which is particularly sensitive at an air number of a given magnitude, and the combustion process operating with an air ratio having an air number of a different magnitude out of the sensitivity range of the sensor which includes extracting a hot exhaust gas stream from a combustion process having an air ratio with an air number out of the given sensitivity range of a sensor changing the amount of air in the exhaust gas stream to provide an auxiliary gas stream having an air number in the sensitivity range of the sensor, measuring the air number of the auxiliary gas stream to detect the difference from the air number of the given magnitude, and controlling the air ratio of the combustion process to maintain the air number of the auxiliary gas stream at the given magnitude, and apparatus for carrying out

  • Patent number: 4018969
Abstract: An electrochemical storage cell or battery based on alkali metal and sulfur with at least one anode chamber containing alkali metal and one cathode chamber containing sulfur-alkali compounds separated from each other by an ion-conducting solid electrolyte wherein the sulfur-alkali compounds are at least partially dissolved in an organic liquid solvent with a boiling point above the operating temperature of the cell, the operating temperature being in the range of about 100.degree. to 200 C. The solvent permits lower operating temperature with reduced rate of corrosion.
