Abstract: A drive combination that is disclosed that is particularly suited for use in automobiles constructed to engage in acceleration racing. The drive combination includes a torque converter drive unit that is driven by an engine, and a countershaft transmission that that is driven by the torque converter drive unit. The disclosed drive combination requires less power to drive than known torque converter drive and planetary gear transmission drive combinations used for automobile racing and is lighter than such known drive combinations.

Abstract: A mobile vehicle jack and support is disclosed that may be positioned below a vehicle, raise the vehicle to a selected height, and securely support the vehicle at the selected height. The mobile jack and support includes a frame, a lift arm rotatably coupled to the frame at one end and having a vehicle engagement at an opposite end, and an support member rotatably coupled to the frame.
Abstract: This patent discloses a shield for an automatic transmission used in race cars radial that includes a strengthened fluid pan and a formed metal jacket shield that extends around the section of the housing of the transmission adjacent to the fluid pan from opposite sides of the fluid pan. The strengthened fluid pan is constructed to extend outwardly from the transmission housing to provide locations at which the jacket shield may be secured to the fluid pan and to increase the volume of the fluid pan as compared to conventional fluid pans. The jacket shield is secured directly to the fluid pan and in combination with the fluid pan provides a shield that continuously surrounds the transmission and resists perforation and separation due to impact of fragments propelled from the transmission after breakage of rotating components of the transmission.
Abstract: A coupler is disclosed to allow a torque converter mounted to an engine to drive a transmission or other driveline component that is not constructed for use with a torque converter. The coupler includes a pump to provide fluid to the torque converter under pressure and an externally adjustable fluid pressure regulator to vary the pressure of the fluid provided to the torque converter. The stall speed of the torque converter has been found to change as the fluid pressure is changed. A fast-release driveline brake in the coupler provides reliable restraint of the coupler shaft which functions as the output shaft of the torque converter and allows power to be quickly applied to the attached driveline component.
