Patents Assigned to Building Materials Corporation of America
  • Patent number: 5717012
Abstract: This invention concerns a light weight sheet felt material suitable for use as roof and siding underlayment and insulation board facing which comprises on a dry basis(a) 60-80 wt. % cellulose fibers;(b) 15-30 wt. % glass fibers having a diameter of 5 to 16 microns and a length of 3/8-3/4 inch;(c) 4-10 wt. % binder and(d) 0.5-10 wt. % non-asphaltic, sizing agent having a flash point above 150.degree. F. and an evaporation rate less than one which is selected from the group consisting of anionic rosinous and amphipathic ester and anhydride sizes and mixtures thereof. The felt of this invention is of considerably lighter weight and higher porosity than other felting materials used for the same purpose and can be supplied in longer continuous sheet rolls than heretofore practical from a standpoint of handling, shipping, storage, and installation. Also the present sheet felt can be produced on conventional felt making equipment in a one step process.

  • Patent number: 5676597
Abstract: A composite shingle which comprises a hip, ridge or rake overlappable shingle of standard dimension bonded to a relatively rigid, randomly aligned fibrous, air permeable mat as an underlayer having a shorter length such that upon overlapping said shingles, the forward edge of the first shingle mat abuts the rear edge of the next shingle mat and provides a self-aligning, continuous vent area below the exposed surface of the installed shingles.

  • Patent number: 5579619
Abstract: A roof structure and method for reducing uplift on a roof resulting from a wind blowing over the roof at a rooftop wind speed. The roof has a membrane overlying a deck. An air permeable and resilient mat is installed over the membrane. The mat has openings of a size to reduce the wind velocity passing through it to the membrane while the openings being of a size that the mat is not lifted by a pressure differential therein reducing uplift on the membrane.

  • Patent number: 5352154
Abstract: A roof ventilation system for ventilating a building with a metal roof formed of a series of metal panels joined by standing seams, and having a vent slot disposed along the roof ridge in proximity to an edge of the metal panels. A plurality of clips are disposed at intervals on each side of the vent slot. Each clip is adapted to slip onto the upper edge of the metal panels and to straddle one of the standing seams. The clip includes a top cap-engaging portion, a hook portion formed by a lower leg and an upper leg spaced for receiving the upper edge of adjacent metal panels, and a wall portion which extends between the upper leg of the hook portion and the cap-engaging portion. The cap-engaging portion, the upper leg and the wall portion define a channel adapted to retain sections of air-permeable venting material along the vent slot. A slot in the clip extends through the upper leg and the side wall for receiving the standing seam. The clip may be formed from a flat rectangular sheet.
