  • Patent number: 4190387
Abstract: An apparatus and tool for the precision working of gears, particularly by a gear shaving process. The process involves the step of changing the direction of rotation between the workpiece and the tool approximately starting with half of the advance path and the smallest distance between the axes. The optimum condition occurs when the direction of rotation is changed prior to reaching the smallest distance between the axes and the advance is directed at a right angle with respect to the axis of the workpiece or tool. The tool is rotatably supported on a spindle as is the workpiece. The workpiece is driven relative to the tool to advance same relative to the tool. Control devices are provided for controlling the movement of the workpiece relative to the tool. The tool has grooves which extend from the addendum to the dedendum and form cutting edges and the flanks of the teeth have concaved surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4176549
Abstract: A hydraulic test stand for testing of shafts, couplings, gears and gear transmission systems. A pair of hydro-units are provided, one of which functions as a pump and the other one of which functions as a motor. Each of the hydro-units has a shaft thereon. A reversible drive motor is provided for driving the shaft of the hydro-unit functioning as a pump. High pressure lines and low pressure lines are connected in circuit with the hydro-units to provide an oil circulation circuit. The setting member has a pair of rotatable shafts thereon interconnected therewith. A driving rotation of either one of the shafts effects a driven rotation of the other shaft so that the torque output on the shaft from the hydro-unit which functions as a motor is included into the power flow consideration of the test stand and is used to drive through the test member the hydro-unit which functions as a pump so that the drive means must then only yet balance out the occurring losses within the system.

  • Patent number: 4174771
Abstract: A friction clutch having a pair of axially spaced first friction members connected to a first clutch half and at least one second friction member connected to the other clutch half. Both of the clutch halves define a housing for containing a liquid which is free to flow between the first friction members as well as between the second friction member and the first friction members when the second friction member is interposed between the first friction members. The second friction member is supported for movement into and out of axial alignment with the first friction members so that the liquid contained between the first and second friction members will function as the torque transmitting medium to effect a drive from the first clutch half to the second clutch half and vice versa.

  • Patent number: 4148262
Abstract: Drive system for a railway vehicle. In a railway vehicle utilzing a high speed motor whose output shaft is arranged generally parallel to the direction of movement of the vehicle, there is provided a gearing system for connecting said motor to a driven axle of the vehicle of such nature that only a minimum of unsprung mass is present and said gearing occupies only a small amount of space. In general, the motor drives through at least two series connected gear reduction units and the output of the second thereof drives a hollow shaft surrounding the vehicle axis and flexibly connected thereto. Thus, the entire drive system excepting only for the flexible connection to the axle may be mounted on the spring supported portion of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4137822
Abstract: A mandrel for receiving the tool of a tool machine which has cones on both ends thereof for centering the mandrel in a tool machine spindle. Securing structure is provided for securing the mandrel to the tool machine spindle so that rotational drive is provided therefor. A stop is provided on one end of the mandrel intermediate the two cones and a cylinder-like device is provided at the end remote therefrom but also spaced inwardly from the cones. A piston is reciprocably mounted in the cylinder and engages a tool mounted on the mandrel. An application of pressure to the cylinder will cause an axial movement of the piston to engage the tool to effect a clamping of the tool between the stop and the aforementioned piston.

  • Patent number: 4119013
Abstract: A hydraulic drive mechanism for a chucking device on a workpiece spindle on a gear hobbing machine. A chucking piston is movable back-and-forth in the chucking cylinder and rotates with the workpiece spindle. Pressure medium is fed through a nonrotating supply member, for example, a connecting sleeve. The chucking cylinder is secured to the face plate so that the cylinder end plate which seals off the connecting piece forms a planar surface with the surface of the face plate. Pressure medium is supplied to the chucking cylinder through flexible hoses.

  • Patent number: 4091686
Abstract: A drive mechanism for a spindle of a tool machine, in particular a tool machine having a hob rotatably mounted thereon. Worm gearing is provided for driving the workpiece relative to the hob. Clearance is normally provided between the teeth on the worm and the teeth on the worm gear. Structure is provided for eliminating the clearance so that the drive of the workpiece is a positive drive and no errors exist due to the clearance normally provided between the teeth on the gear and the worm gear. In the particular embodiment disclosed in this application, a second worm is provided and is driven by the first-mentioned worm and worm gearing. The helix angle on the second worm lies outside of the automatic locking area and, in turn, acts onto a braking mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4050543
Abstract: A lubricating device for dispensing a prescribed amount of lubricant onto gearing at intervals during the operation or immediately upon starting the gears. The lubricating device is composed of a tank having a bell-like housing located therein. The lower edge of the bell is spaced upwardly from the bottom wall of the tank to permit lubricant to flow inside the bell. A valve member is cooperable with the bottom wall of the tank, which bottom wall has openings therein, and is operatively connected to the bell. The valve is opened simultaneous with a closing of the gap between the lower edge of the bell and the upper surface of the bottom wall so that the lubricant within the bell is dispensed out through the discharge openings in the bottom wall of the tank.

  • Patent number: 4045917
Abstract: Adjusting device for an oscillating workpiece. In one type of gear grinding machine, there is provided means for effecting oscillation of the workpiece simultaneously and in synchronism with reciprocation thereof in order to enable a substantially involute curve to be ground onto the workpiece by a grinding wheel which is fixed excepting for its rotation. In such machine, this oscillation is created by at least one cam fixed to the workpiece spindle together with at least two bands fixed at one of their respective ends to such cam and at the other of their respective ends to a fixed portion of the machine with the bands being wrapped in opposite directions at least partially around such cam. Thus, sidewise reciprocating movement of the workpiece spindle effects oscillation of same in a known manner according to the curve provided on said cams.

  • Patent number: 4026396
Abstract: Pressure fluid control for a transmission. There is provided a pressure fluid control device for a transmission, particularly applicable to use in fork lift trucks, wherein a suitable hydraulic selector receives pressure medium from a pressure creating device such as a pump and directs same through a pressure regulating valve to a selected one of the transmission clutches or couplings. Particularly the pressure regulating valve is arranged in a rotary slide valve of the hydraulic selector and is arranged to respond to a piston energized by brake pressure fluid. Thus by the use of very simple apparatus the first portion of a brake pedal movement is utilized to disengage a transmission.
