Abstract: A helmet having a chin bar fastened at two points on each side of the shell. The shell is molded with recessed portions designed to receive the two branches of the chin bar on each side where they will be fastened to the shell so that the outer surfaces of the chin guard are flush with the shell at the locations of attachment to provide a smooth transition and reduce weight. An adjustment device to adjust the fit of the helmet to the user includes a star wheel on each side of the helmet attached to an arcuate flexible strip extending rearwardly around the occipital area of the skull. A sliding mechanism attached to the strip allows the strip to be moved forward and backward to allow it to be tightened or loosened, respectively, with respect to the player's head. A ratcheting lateral adjustment device is also disclosed.

Abstract: Shoulder pads for a player playing a contact sport, such as hockey, lacrosse or football, are provided. The shoulder pads comprise a front member, a back member, left and right shoulder arches, left and right shoulder protectors, and an adjustment system allowing the player to adjust a fit of the shoulder pads. The adjustment system may allow the player to adjust various components of the shoulder pads, including the front member, the back member, and the left and right shoulder protectors, in various directions.

In one aspect, the headgear has an external head-protecting shell that is soft to reduce the risk of injuring other players. In another aspect, the headgear has a rear closure arrangement that includes a bridge component for ease of putting on the headgear and for added protection at the closure area of the rear closure arrangement. In another aspect, fit pads of different sizes are removeably attachable to an cheekbone extension member of the headgear to provide a proper fit to the wearer's cheekbone. A face mask is integrated with the headgear in some embodiments.

Abstract: Helmet comprising an outer shell having left and right side portions, inner padding configured to be located between the left and right side portions and a wearer's head, and a lateral adjustment device for adjusting the helmet's fit. The lateral adjustment device is between the outer shell and the inner padding and comprises a first leg with a distal end fixed to the outer shell or the inner padding; a second leg; a connecting leg portion interconnecting the first and second legs; a third leg with a distal end mounted to the second leg; and an actuator for moving the second leg between first and second positions with respect to the third leg while pivoting the connecting leg portion such that the first and second legs are movable from a first orientation to a second orientation. In the second orientation, the first and second legs lie in spaced planes.
