Patents Assigned to Castro Convertible Corporation
  • Patent number: 5097544
Abstract: A convertible sofa bed is disclosed which includes an improved folding bed mechanism which consists of a support section, intermediate section, a center section and a foot section all pivotally connected together by a linkage which permits the sections to be pivoted between an extended position wherein they are linearly aligned and a folded position wherein the foot section extends in a substantially horizontal plane parallel to the intermediate and support sections and the center section extends substantially vertically between the intermediate and foot sections. The linkage allows the folded center and intermediate sections to move into and downwardly in the frame adjacent the support section and includes a push linkage assembly which operates to permit the folded over sections to move into the frame.

  • Patent number: 5080430
Abstract: A reclining chair has a headrest upholstered directly to the front edge of the back of the chair which is automatically adjustable with respect to each of the positions of the reclining chair. The headrest is adapted to move between a position wherein it lies generally flat rearwardly of the back and a position wherein the headrest swings forwardly into a position to comfortably support the user's neck. In order to coordinate movement of the headrest between the positions of the chair, the chair includes a contoured moveable rear support member.

  • Patent number: 4712261
Abstract: A mattress guard is disclosed for use in a convertible sofa bed having an air inflatable mattress supported on the mattress support of a folding bed mechanism frame. The mattress guard includes a pair of flexible guard members adapted to be placed on opposed edges of the mattress, elastic straps resiliently securing the guard members together along the top surface of the mattress and attachment devices for securing the guard members to the mattress support below the mattress. The guard members hold the bedding for the mattress securely against the mattress and prevent it from becoming entrapped in the folding mechanism when the bed is folded. In addition the mattress, will be compressed when air is released therefrom prior to folding of the sofa bed to space its edges away from the mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4662286
Abstract: A convertible table extendible from a low to a high position comprising a rectangular deck having cut-outs in its four corners, a frame surrounding the deck, folding leaves pivoted to the deck and constructed to fit within the frame when they are folded, four arms attached at their respective ends to a combination mounting bracket hinge and to one of four respective legs, and a mechanical linkage for raising and lowering the table by moving the top of the legs diagonally along rods mounted beneath the deck. When the table is in the high position, extensions fixed to the arms pass through the cut-outs in the four corners of the deck and raise the leaves up relative to the frame. The leaves can then be rotated and unfolded to form a full sized top.

  • Patent number: 4590630
Abstract: A convertible sofa-bed is disclosed which has a seating area, a back rest, and a mechanism support frame located below the seating area. A folding mechanism for supporting a mattress when the mechanism is unfolded and for supporting a seat in the seating area when folded with the mechanism located within the frame below the seat is also provided. The mechanism has first, second and third main sections, a fourth auxiliary section pivotally interconnecting the first and second sections, a fifth auxiliary section pivotally interconnecting the second and third sections, and a linkage mechanism operatively engaged with the third section for supporting the mechanism in the support frame. An additional linkage mechanism permits the three main sections to be folded over one another in an overlapping generally parallel relationship, so that the entire mechanism can be supported within the frame below the seating area of the sofa-bed.

  • Patent number: 4366586
Abstract: A folding bed mechanism, such as, for example, a convertible ottoman, has a plurality of pivotally connected bed sections, including a base section supported on rollers or the like. The bed sections are adapted to unfold into a straight line and to fold into a compact configuration. The improvement of the present invention comprises at least one anti-roll foot mounted in the base section for movement toward and away from the surface on which the base section is supported and a control mechanism responsive to the initiation of unfolding pivotal movement of one of the bed sections relative to the base section for urging the foot into contact with the support surface to resist rolling of the base frame during unfolding of the bed sections.

  • Patent number: 3934281
Abstract: In a convertible sofa-bed in which a mattress is folded over upon itself, a bed-folding linkage is provided which compresses the mattress with great leverage, thus providing means for facilitating the opening and closing of the sofa-bed, even when using relatively thick mattresses. The bed mechanism includes a mattress support having first, second, third and fourth hinged sections whose folding is controlled by the bedfolding linkage. The mattress-compression linkage includes a first link connected to the first or foot section, and a second link connected to the third section of the mattress support structure. An abutment is provided on the third section. The abutment is located so that when the bed is folded up, the second link hits the abutment and this causes the linkage to be pulled tight and locked in place to compress the folded mattress in a compressed condition.
