Abstract: Food coating composition comprising protective-colloid-stabilized polyacrylate dispersions, use thereof and coated foods produced therewith A description is given of food coating compositions comprising a) a plastics dispersion or a mixture of plastics dispersions comprising at least one homo- or copolymer poly(meth)acrylate having at least 55% by weight (meth)acrylate monomer units and also 0.1 to 30% by weight of at least one protective colloid, and also b) aids and/or additives used for producing food coatings. The coatings are distinguished by sufficiently high water vapor transmission rates, low water absorption capacity and also low reemulsification capacity and have good mechanical properties in the moist state.

Abstract: A description is given of an aqueous copolymer poly(vinyl ester) dispersion comprising A) 100 parts by weight of a copolymer derived from A1) from 34.9 to 95% by weight of vinyl esters of aliphatic, saturated carboxylic acids, A2) from 4.9 to 65% by weight of maleic esters and/or fumaric esters of monohydric aliphatic alcohols having a chain length of C1-C18 and/or alpha-olefins having from 2 to 8 carbon atoms, A3) from 0.1 to 10% of at least one comonomer having at least one stabilizing nonionic or ionic group, and also A4) if appropriate, other comonomers, the sum of components A1, A2 and A3 and if appropriate A4 giving 100% by weight, B) from 0.1 to 4.5 parts by weight, based on the total amount of the monomers used, preferably from 0.5 to 3.5 parts by weight of at least one protecting colloid, preferably poly(vinyl alcohol), C) from 0.1 to 10 parts by weight, based on the total amount of the monomers used, preferably from 0.5 to 5.

Abstract: A dispersion powder composition based on water-insoluble polymers with particularly low water absorption comprises, based on the total weight of the polymer, an amount in the range from 0.1 to 30% by weight of at least one carboxylic ester whose acid component has at least 6 carbon atoms and whose alcohol component is a polyhydroxy compound, preferably glycerol, diglycerol, or triglycerol. This is prepared by mixing polymer and protective colloid with the carboxylic ester to prepare a dispersion and then, where appropriate, drying this with simultaneous admixing of an anticaking agent, and gives good results when used for modifying wallpaper pastes, mortars, or concrete.

Abstract: High-solids aqueous polymer dispersions, their preparation and use A description is given of an aqueous polymer dispersion derived from at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer and with a solids content of at least 60% by weight, based on the polymer dispersion. The polymer dispersion comprises at least one salt of a phosphorus acid. The preparation takes place by free-radical emulsion polymerization of at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer in aqueous phase in the presence of at least one emulsifier, at least one initiator and at least one salt of a phosphorus acid. With the process it is possible to prepare aqueous polymer dispersions having a high solids content in combination with a low viscosity, these polymer dispersions being suitable for formulating adhesives.

Abstract: A description is given of a concrete molding which is coated with cement-bound mineral coating composition (cement slurry) and with a transparent varnish, the transparent varnish comprising as binder an aqueous polymer dispersion and also at least one anionic emulsifier containing at least one phosphate and/or phosphonate group. The concrete molding is distinguished by high gloss and can be used in particular as rooftile.

Abstract: A description is given of a process for preparing bimodal or multimodal polymers from olefinically unsaturated monomers in an aqueous medium. The process features the introduction as initial charge of selected mixtures of polymeric stabilizers and of at least one selected ionic comonomer. In the polymerization process the monomer is metered continuously or discontinuously into the said initial charge. In this way it is possible by means of simple process measures to prepare bimodal or multimodal dispersions.

Abstract: The invention relates to new rewettable adhesive systems containing colloidal dispersion mixtures obtained by copolymerization of at least one water-soluble monomer with at least one non-water-soluble comonomer in the presence of a micelle-forming emulsifier. The invention also relates to the use of the new adhesive systems.

Abstract: The present invention relates to water-resistant aqueous dispersion adhesives with prolonged pot life and good color constancy of their bonds, comprising homopolymeric and/or copolymers polyvinyl esters, polymeric protective colloids, water-soluble compounds which can be complexed with the polymeric protective colloids, and derivatives of glyoxal and polyaldehydes having at least 3 carbon atoms, from which aldehyde groups can be controllably released in acidic media. The inventive dispersion adhesives are suitable for adhesively bonding porous and semiporous substrates.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing coated mineral shaped bodies by applying an aqueous coating agent containing a polymer dispersion serving as a bonding agent and at least one aqueous styrene maleic anhydride copolymer solution. The shaped body is subsequently hardened and the coating agent is dried. The invention is characterized in that the at least one aqueous styrene maleic anhydride copolymer solution is added to the polymer dispersion after completion of the polymerization. The shaped bodies coated in such a manner exhibit an improved efflorescence behavior. The method is particularly suited for coating roofing tiles and fibrated concrete slabs.
