Publication number: 20040235170Abstract: An improved prosthetic graft for the bypass, replacement or repair of vessels and organs that are in contact with blood flow is disclosed. The prosthetic graft includes a porous prosthetic implant and adherent cells adhered to the outer surface of the implant. The adherent cells are transfected with at least one recombinant nucleic acid molecule encoding at least one protein that enhances patency of the graft. The prosthetic graft has a long-term patency and success rate that is superior to other previously described prosthetic grafts designed for such use. Also disclosed are methods of making and using such a graft.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 3, 2004Publication date: November 25, 2004Applicant: Centerpulse Biologics Inc.Inventors: Diane Lee Anderson, John Paul Ranieri, Maurizio Capogrossi Colognesi, Marco Scoccianti, Antonio Facchiano

Patent number: 6669725Abstract: An improved, non-resorbable annuloplasty ring that will provide support for the valve annulus while also promoting healing and/or regeneration of the annulus tissue is disclosed. Healing and/or regeneration of valvular tissue is promoted using a growth factor mixture that has been shown to be capable of promoting growth of a wide range of tissues, including heart valve tissue, and which promotes tissue growth based upon the local tissue environment (i.e., specific cell recruitment and proliferation). Thus, an annuloplasty ring that provides an actual healing response in addition to mechanical support to a dilated heart valve annulus is provided.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 2000Date of Patent: December 30, 2003Assignee: Centerpulse Biologics Inc.Inventor: Timothy L. Patent number: 6627230Abstract: A method and apparatus for preparing a bone product are provided. The method includes contacting an interior section of a cylindrical bone portion with a high pressure fluid medium such as at least about 1000 psi to remove at least a portion of cancellous bone matrix from the bone portion. Preferably the bone contains less than about 25% by weight cancellous bone. The apparatus includes multiple stations of opposing high pressure nozzles holding the cylindrical bone portion from each end and for contacting the interior surfaces of a bone portion with a fluid medium. The apparatus also includes a third nozzle for contacting the exterior surface of the bone portion with a fluid medium.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2000Date of Patent: September 30, 2003Assignee: Centerpulse Biologics Inc.Inventors: James J. Benedict, Frank Fisher, Colin Brock
