    Abstract: A process including the steps of: providing a planetary roller extruder having a plurality of compounding sections including a main spindle surrounded by and intermeshed with a plurality of planetary spindles; introducing monomers and initiator into a first compounding section; producing a homogeneous composition; heating the composition to initiate free-radical polymerization; introducing monomers and initiator into one or more of the remaining compounding sections and continuing the polymerization; discharging the polymerized composition; and optionally, taking a portion of the composition discharged from the planetary roller extruder and returning it to the first compounding section.

    Abstract: A multilayer shrink film and methods of making same comprising high speed polyethylenic outer layers along with one or more cyclic-olefin copolymer (COC) containing inner layers. The multilayer shrink films of the invention are produced using film biaxial orienting means, have haze values of 5 or less and Young's modulus of 50,000 psi or greater and superior hot slip properties. In order to achieve the desired modulus, films of the present invention comprise from 10% to 30% COC and from 2% to 25% softening olefin copolymer. Preferably the film comprises large proportion of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE). Suitable COCs for use in the invention are limited to single site catalyzed COC.

    Abstract: This invention relates to ungrounded type flexible fabric container with a reduced energy of electrostatic discharge suitable for use in a combustible environment. A woven fabric is configured to form a flexible fabric container having sidewalls, a top feature and a bottom feature. The woven fabric flexible bulk container is made from a static dissipating fabric comprising fabric woven of non-conductive tapes, to which a plurality of bicomponent conductive staple fibers are added. The bicomponent conductive staple fibers have one or more longitudinal stripes of a carbon loaded conductive constituent on an outer surface of a non-conductive constituent. Preferably the staple fibers are woven into or coated onto the fabric at a spacing of from 3 mm to 100 mm.

    Abstract: A polyolefin woven fabric extrusion coating with superior soft tactile characteristic is disclosed comprising ethylenic elastomer and thermoplastic vulcanizate. The combination performs in a synergistic fashion to obtain more pleasing soft tactile characteristic than is available with either elastomer or thermoplastic vulcanizate alone. The inclusion of additives may enhance properties and include plastomer, UV stabilizers, flame retardant, antiblock, colorant, printable additives and polar additives.

Some embodiments incorporate a five layer flame retardant polyolefin stretch film with flame retardant additives primarily in the inner layers. Another embodiment incorporates thermal insulating material.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to an adhesive containing a primary water soluble adhesive agent, an adhesion promoter for providing initial tack to composition, and a water soluble polymer comprising an imine compound in an amount sufficient to provide adhesion to polymeric films and preferential anchorage of such films to a substrate. The primary adhesive agent is generally present in the amount of about 2 to 60% by weight, the adhesion promoter is generally present in an amount of about 5 to 30% by weight and the imine compound is generally present in the amount of about 0.1 to 7% by weight of the adhesive, with the balance being water. The adhesive include one or more of the following optional components: a primary chelating agent in an amount of about 0.5 to 6% by weight, a thinning agent in an amount of up to about 1% by weight, or a secondary chelating agent, a wetting agent, or a humectant, each in an amount of up to about 3% by weight of the adhesive.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to the combination of a tape dispensing machine which includes an exit chute and a pressure plate assembly, and a pressure plate positioner which has at least one support member positioned between the chute and the pressure plate assembly for providing an upward force on the pressure plate assembly to reduce the frictional force on any tape which passes therebetween to prevent jamming of the tape during dispensing. In addition, the invention relates to a method for facilitating the dispensing of relatively thin tapes which comprises providing an upward force on the pressure plate assembly to reduce the frictional force on any tape which passes therebetween to prevent jamming of the tape during dispensing. This upward force is preferably provided by installing the pressure plate positioner described above between the chute and pressure plate assembly of the tape dispenser.
