  • Patent number: 9452469
Abstract: A method for producing a hollow metal part by casting, wherein a destructible core (20) is provided including a body (22) made of aggregate, and a shell (40) which surrounds the body and adheres thereto; the core (20) is positioned inside a mold (50); metal is melted and the liquid metal is injected, generally under pressure, into the mold (50), surrounding the core (20) embodying an interior space of the part; after solidification of the part, the body is disaggregated and it is removed through removal openings provided in the shell and the part; and the shell is destroyed and removed through removal openings provided in the part.

  • Patent number: 6073676
Abstract: An installation has a fixed die portion and a moving die portion, ejector rods under the control of an actuator fed with control fluid, and a spray device for spraying a coating substance. A monitoring apparatus comprises a pressure sensor for continuously measuring the pressure of a control fluid, a device for measuring and recording the pressure as a function of time, a device for comparing the recorded measurement with a reference measurement, and a device for modifying the spraying of the coating substance as a function of the comparison.

  • Patent number: 5894085
Abstract: The invention relates to apparatus for determining the purity of a metal alloy, and in particular an aluminum alloy. The apparatus comprises a shell (10) defining a receptacle (14) of generally tapering shape about a vertical axis having a bottom end defining an orifice (18) of small dimensions, a filter (20) completely closing the orifice, means a heater for initially raising the shell to a first predetermined temperature, an orifice putting a predetermined quantity of alloy to be tested into the receptacle, the quantity of alloy being initially at a second predetermined temperature, whereby the alloy flows under gravity through the filter until the filter becomes clogged with the impurities in the alloy, and means a pan for collecting and measuring the volume of alloy that passes through the filter prior to the filter becoming clogged by the impurities contained in the alloy.

  • Patent number: 5236660
Abstract: The invention relates to heat resistant vermicular or spheroidal graphite cast iron. To make cast iron resistant to temperatures of 900.degree. C. to more than 1000.degree. C. while reducing manufacturing costs, the cast iron includes 4.7% to 7.1% by weight of Si equivalent, where Si.sub.eq is defined as Si+0.8Al, and in which the concentration by weight of Si lies in the range 3.9% to 5.3% and the concentration of Al lies in the range 0.5% to 2.5%.

  • Patent number: 4057231
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for automatically deslagging a cupola furnace and to an improved cupola furnace using this process.According to the invention the bottom of the crucible is permanently connected to atmosphere via a siphon sill whose level is determined so that the interface between pig iron and slag is sometimes above and sometimes below this sill. The side wall of the cupola furnace has on the one hand a taphole for the pig iron opening into the crucible level with the hearth and which can be sealed with a plug and on the other air blowing tuyeres in the upper part of the crucible, as well as a siphon linked with the crucible for the supply thereof by means of a passage whose lower edge is adjacent to the bottom of the crucible and whose upper sill extends below the maximum permitted pig iron level determined by the siphon outflow, whereby the maximum permitted slag level is located below the nozzles.

  • Patent number: 4036479
Abstract: An improved cupola furnace which comprises, in combination, on the one hand at least one tap hole for the pig iron opening into the crucible level with the hearth, a passage for evacuating the slag and air-blowing tuyeres, on the other hand, a storage tank closed by a cover and permanently communicating, near its bottom, via the tap hole, with the crucible, finally a removal siphon permanently communicating with the tank via an opening which opens near its bottom and with the outside via an overflow sill, at least one pneumatic device being connected to the upper part of the tank and enabling this latter to be selectively placed under two different pressures.

  • Patent number: 3993117
Abstract: Foundry moulds and cores of increased mechanical resistance are prepared from sand, a binding agent, a setting agent, and a surface active agent, the binding agent being a urea-formaldehyde resin or a urea-formaldehyde-furfuryl alcohol resin, the surface active agent being capable of producing a foam which begins to subside before the sand begins to set, the surface-active agent being selected from the group consisting of an alkylbenzene sulphonate, an alkylamine salt of formula RNH.sub.2,YH in which R is an alkyl group of more than 9 carbon atoms and Y is the anionic portion of an acid or a compound of formula: ##EQU1## IN WHICH R represents an alkyl group having more than 9 carbon atoms and Me is an alkali metal; in the proportion of 0.01 to 2% by weight of surface-active agent with respect to the total weight of the liquid sand. Particularly effective are n-dodecylbenzene sulphonate and tetra-isobutyl sulphonate.
