Patents Assigned to CH.sub.2 M Hill, Inc.
  • Patent number: 4999670
Abstract: A plate for supporting one or more sheets of originals to be copied and a sheet of sensitized media is supported so as to minimize sag in one direction across the plate. The plate may be inclined with the top and bottom edges of the plate entirely supported or only supported at location(s) spaced inwardly from the edge of the plate. When a cover, such as a flexible curtain, is mechanically pressed against the plate, as by a roller, air gaps between the originals and sensitized media are minimized due to this plate support system. This improves the speed at which high quality prints can be obtained.

  • Patent number: 4707124
Abstract: An apparatus for exposing photosensitive media is disclosed in which the light reaching or passing through photosensitive media is monitored, with the exposure being terminated after the desired amount of light has been received. Slope control circuitry is provided to selectively and non-linearly vary the exposure with variations in the density of originals which are being copied simultaneously. In a wide variety of applications the apparatus produces high quality prints, by automatically compensating for variations in exposure due to, for example, variations in the number of originals being copied.

  • Patent number: 4659462
Abstract: A water treatment plant includes a granulated activated carbon bed contactor used in pretreating influent water, including wastewater, prior to any filtration of the water in downstream stages of the plant. The contactor is operable either primarily for adsorption purposes or in a dual role for both adsorption and clarification or flocculation purposes to improve performance of downstream filters. In one embodiment, the carbon bed is partially fluidized and expanded by water flowing upwardly through the bed. This fluidization allows the passage of solids the bed and minimizes the plugging of the bed. The flow rate of water through the bed is adjustable and controllable to establish the degree of solids capture by the bed. Upwash and backwash carbon bed cleaning mechanisms are provided. Furthermore, the contactor has a countercurrent spent carbon removal and fresh carbon introduction system for rejuvenating the bed.

  • Patent number: 4526463
Abstract: An apparatus for exposing photosensitive media is disclosed in which the light reaching the photosensitive layer of the media is monitored, with the exposure being terminated after the desired amount of light has been received. A multiple exposure control is also provided which adjusts the relative exposures during first and second exposures of the photosensitive material. A special roller curtain mechanism is also disclosed. In addition, the apparatus includes a vacuum system for generating a vacuum, as the curtain descends with the vacuum being drawn between the blanket or curtain and a glass plate which supports the sensitized media and originals being copied. The surface supporting the sensitized materials is inclined to facilitate loading and unloading of the apparatus and also the operation of the curtain.
