Abstract: A fluid dispensing system provides a sprayer. The system has a container with liquid fluid, such as used in lawn and garden weed control and fertilization. The sprayer has a handle containing a spring engine and a pump for liquid from the container. The spring engine has a flat spring having a spring band extending from two coils wound on two shafts. One of the coils is manually wound by a crank connected to a shaft on which the coil is connected. The other shaft is connected to the pump by a rotary cam driver. Liquid is sucked by the pump into a pump chamber during part of a cycle of rotation of the other shaft when the coils are unwound and the liquid is pumped out of the chamber during the other part of the cycle of rotation to a sprayer head on the sprayer handle.

Abstract: A reservoir pump in which liquid supplied from a container in which the pump is installed enters a pressure chamber with respect to which a piston reciprocates in suction and compression strokes. The chamber communicates with a reservoir, (the supply) so that liquid is supplied into the chamber in the suction stroke of the piston and transferred under pressure into the reservoir during the compression stroke. The chamber is open to supply and to the reservoir via one-way valves which open during the suction and compression strokes, respectively. A passage providing an orifice with a cross section much smaller than the cross section of the opening into the chamber, which communicates the chamber with the supply, is open via another one-way valve during the suction stroke. Air enters through the passageway. This air is compressed during the compression stroke.

Abstract: A backpack sprayer having a tank with a filling opening at the top thereof and a pressure chamber therein is provided with filtering apparatus for preventing particles in the fluid in the tank from entering an inlet port of the pressure chamber located near the bottom of the tank when suction generated by a pump that depends from the bottom of the pressure chamber causes fluid in the tank to flow through the inlet port into the pressure chamber. The fluid pressurized by the pump flows through an outlet port from the pressure chamber for spraying when a valve in the nozzle at the end of a hose communicating with the outlet port is actuated by an operator. The filtering apparatus is provided by a filter in a frame removably captured in a fixture projecting outwardly from the outside of the pressure chamber on opposite sides of the inlet port.

Abstract: A hose having a compressible wall which is adapted to be connected at one end thereof to a nozzle of a sprayer. The other end is attached to a stub pipe or stem extending from a tank of the sprayer which can contain a pressurized liquid which flows through the hose and is sprayed via the nozzle. The coupling provides a quick connection for the hose to the pipe stem and also allows the coupling/hose assembly to freely rotate 360° while remaining sealed. The coupling is an assembly of a nipple and a sleeve retainer having a throat which compresses the hose wall and provides a retainer, retaining the end of the hose on the nipple. A spring clip is sprung apart as the assembly of retainer, nipple, and hose is seated on the pipe stem. To disconnect or release the coupling, the spring clip is spread apart to free the assembly.
