Patents Assigned to Chem-Elec, Inc.
  • Patent number: 5130231
Abstract: Single or multiple blood plasma component concentrations are measured by a disposable stick having one or more blood plasma component reactive areas covered by a semipermeable membrane which is permeable by blood plasma or serum components and impermeable by blood cellular and particulate matter. A second overlay may be superposed with the semipermeable membrane over the reactive areas to receive a blood sample and meter and distribute that sample uniformly to the semipermeable membrane which in turn passes the plasma components uniformly to the reactive areas. The overlays are subsequently separable from the reactive area to remove the cellular components and particulate matter and expose the reactive areas for inspection by, for example, color comparison to standardized charts.

  • Patent number: 4786596
Abstract: Ethyl alcohol test strip fabricating and use techniques for testing an individual's saliva to determine his sobriety are disclosed. The test strips employ an alcohol oxidase, Peroxidase and an hydrogen donor indicator such as Tetraalkylbenzidine in a carrier matrix supported on the strip with the alcohol oxidase functioning as a catalyst to convert any ethanol present along with ambient oxygen to acetaldehyde and hydrogen peroxide. The peroxidase function as catalyst to induce a color change in the hydrogen donor and convert the hydrogen peroxide to water. The method of fabricating the test strip involves multiple steps of reagent application and hot air drying.

  • Patent number: 4500046
Abstract: A device for rolling up strip material such as paper on a reel or spool for temporary storage purposes, which maintains a relatively uniform tension on the strip material regardless of the movement of that strip material, is disclosed and employs an electric motor which exerts a substantially constant torque independent of the speed of motor operation, which motor is positively drivingly coupled to an expanded mandrel for receiving the strip material. When the mandrel strip material capacity is reached, it may be removed and an end flange extracted therefrom allowing the mandrel to collapse, facilitating the removal of the roll of strip material. In a preferred embodiment, the positive drive is achieved by a toothed timing belt in conjunction with a pair of corrugated pulleys, one coupled to the motor rotor and the other journalled in axial alignment with the mandrel.
