Patent number: 10093448Abstract: A pallet includes a top deck, a bottom deck, and spaced apart support blocks coupled between the top and bottom decks. Each support block includes an inner block and an outer block joined together. The outer block has an open top surface exposing an inner block receiving area therein, and includes a bottom surface, and first and second pairs of opposing outer block side surfaces between carried by the bottom surface. Each opposing outer block side surface has a pocket opening therein for also exposing the inner block receiving area. The inner block is inserted into the inner block receiving area of the outer block, and includes first and second pairs of opposing inner block side surfaces. Each opposing inner block side surface is aligned with a pocket opening in a corresponding outer block side surface so as to form a pocket by covering the pocket opening.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 2016Date of Patent: October 9, 2018Assignee: CHEP Technology Pty LimitedInventors: John Thomas Storteboom, Jeffrey Ryan Chapin, Gregory Wolos, Kenneth Brandt, Daniel J. Patent number: 10092987Abstract: An automated pallet inspection and repair apparatus comprises an inspection station and a repair station. The inspection station comprises a laser that illuminates a pallet, a camera that collects the reflected light and a computer system. The computer system analyzes the output of the camera and acquires the pallet's geometry and topography. The design of the pallet is determined by the computer software. A decision to repair the pallet is made by comparing acquired pallet data against the design criteria. If the pallet needs repair, a recipe of repair steps is constructed by inspecting each of the pallet's elements. The recipe is transmitted to the automated repair station.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 2014Date of Patent: October 9, 2018Assignee: CHEP Technology Pty LimitedInventors: Steve Townsend, Michael David Lucas

Patent number: 10081453Abstract: A pallet includes a top deck and a bottom deck. The top deck has spaced apart upper and lower surfaces, with the lower surface having upper tower openings therein. Spaced apart support blocks are coupled between the top and bottom decks and forming a gap therebetween for receiving a lifting member. Each support block includes an outer wall enclosing a center area, and a core structure having a rectangular shape within the center area, with upper surfaces of the core assembly and the outer wall being coplanar. An upper tower extends outwards from the core structure and into a corresponding upper tower opening in the top deck so as to provide a shear load transfer during impact with the lifting member. First ribs are between the outer wall and the core structure, and second ribs are within an interior area of the upper tower.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 2016Date of Patent: September 25, 2018Assignee: CHEP Technology Pty LimitedInventors: John Thomas Storteboom, Jeffrey Ryan Chapin, Gregory Wolos, Kenneth Brandt, Daniel J Lantz, Oivind Brockmeier, Brandon Michael D'Emidio

Patent number: 10005585Abstract: A wooden pallet includes a base layer, and a cargo layer. The cargo layer includes a pair of spaced apart connector boards, and a pair of spaced apart end deck boards orthogonal to the pair of connector boards. Respective ends of the pair of end deck boards overlap respective ends of the pair of connector boards. Nail plates are coupled between the respective ends of the pair of connector boards and the respective ends of the pair of end deck boards. Each nail plate has a first surface having projections extending outwards therefrom and embedded into one of the end deck boards, and a second surface opposite the first surface devoid of any projections and contacting an end of one of the connector boards. Spaced apart support blocks are between the base layer and the pair of connector boards in the cargo layer, and form a gap therebetween for receiving a lifting member.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 2010Date of Patent: June 26, 2018Assignee: CHEP Technology Pty LimitedInventors: Ken Brandt, Dan Lantz

Patent number: 9965662Abstract: An asset tracking system that optimizes the value per ping by tying the ping to a pattern of movements of the asset. The asset tracking device will send a ping to a remote host (i.e., receiver) when predetermined qualified event is detected by the device. In such a manner, the value per ping is optimized, leading to increased battery life and decreased operational cost. To satisfy these conditions, the asset tracking device is equipped with appropriate sensors, actuators, and trigger mechanism(s). A four-phase methodology or algorithm used to detect and determine when detected motions and movements warrant triggering the data ping.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 2017Date of Patent: May 8, 2018Assignee: Chep Technology PTY LimitedInventors: Brian Lee, Mrinmoy Chakraborty, Jamshed Dubash, Jahangir Nakra
