  • Patent number: 4947859
Abstract: This invention provides a sound sensor apparatus for reception of bio-acoustic signals from the body of a patient and for use with a medical diagnostic device. The apparatus comprises a unitary containment structure of a pliable, adhering material for conforming placement on the patient body surface. A sound sensing transducer is embedded in the containment structure to receive and convert bio-acoustic signals to electrical signals. A cable is communicatively linked to the sound sensing transducer for transmitting the electrical signals to the medical diagnostic device. The composition of the pliable containment structure material is a polymeric mixture substantially acoustically matched to the patient body. The sound sensing transducer is preferably a piezoelectric crystal transducer constructed of a composite material which comprises at least 65 percent by weight lead, at least 20 percent by weight zirconium, and at least 10 percent by weight titanium.

  • Patent number: 4890630
Abstract: A device and method are provided for bio-electric monitoring apparatus to cancel bio-electric noise on the body of a patient. The device comprises a plurality of monitoring electrodes for reception of bio-electric signals from the body, each monitoring electrode having a conductive lead and a surrounding shield. The device further has a driving electrode for transmission of a correction voltage to the body. The driving electrode has a conductive lead and a surrounding shield. The device has a signal averager with an input and an output. The monitoring electrode leads are connected to the input of the signal averager. An amplifier is connected to the output of the signal averager which has its output connected to the driving electrode lead to provide the correction voltage. The shield around the driving electrode lead is conductively connected to the output of the amplifier.

  • Patent number: 4879760
Abstract: The device of the present invention provides a signal modulation system. The system has a first station communicatively connected to at least first and second optical fibers. The first station has a transmitter to produce an unmodulated light carrier signal through the first optical fiber and a receiver to convert a modulated light signal from the second optical fiber to a demodulated electrical signal for output. The system also has a second station communicatively connected to the first and the second optical fibers. The second station has an amplifier and power source which receive input carrier modulating signals, a modulation circuit, and an electro-optical modulator constructed and arranged to modulate transmission of the light carrier signal from the first optical fiber to the second optical fiber.

  • Patent number: 4832608
Abstract: The electrode belt adapter assembly is for communicatively connecting the terminal end of a flexible electrode belt device to the cable end of an EGG apparatus having a plurality of leads at its terminal end. The electrode belt adapter assembly is comprised of a lightweight housing assembly having a lockable cover structure to provide access thereinto and having a first aperture and a set of second apertures to respectively provide communicative access of the electrode belt terminal end and the leads of the cable set end. A circuit board assembly having a plurality of connectors is integrally mounted within the housing assembly. An electrode belt connector assembly is mounted on the circuit board and is aligned with the first aperture. The circuit board assembly further has a connection network with a plurality of leads and post connectors at predetermined locations in electrical communication with the electrode belt connector assembly.

  • Patent number: 4769760
Abstract: The method and device of the present invention is for synchronizing periodic signals. The method is comprised of the steps of obtaining input signals to be synchronized, delineating a plurality of terrain biased, dynamic threshold points, detecting the time at whcih each threshold point was attained by each input signal, averaging the times to determine a mean alignment time and aligning all signals with respect to the mean alignment time. The device of the present invention is comprised of an input system for receiving and converting an analog signal to a digital signal or signals; a microprocessor connected to the input system and having a control section for processing the signal in accordance with the method of the invention; and an output system connected to the microprocessor for sending the synchronized signal.
