Abstract: Benzotriazole UV absorbers substituted with a ultra long ester or amide moiety wherein the ester or amide group is a hydrocarbyl group of 25 to 100 carbon atoms or is a group of alkyl of 25 to 100 carbon atoms interrupted by 5 to 39 oxygen atoms and terminated with an omega-OH or an omega-OR group exhibit excellent stabilization efficacy while they concomitantly do not bloom when incorporated into polyolefin films. These benzotriazole UV absorbers also provide excellent protection to white, dyed, dipped, unscented and/or scented candle wax from discoloration and degradation.

Abstract: 1,2-Bis-adducts of stable hindered nitroxide compounds with substituted ethylenes are prepared by reacting two equivalents of nitroxyl compound with an ethylenically unsaturated compound such as styrene or an acrylate ester. These adducts are very effective inhibitors to prevent the premature polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers when such monomers are distilled, processed or stored.

Abstract: A novel process for the preparation of compounds of formula I by aminolysis of a p-halophenyl alkyl ketone of formula II with a cyclic amine of formula III in water at a temperature of at least 130° C., in which formulae X is a halogen atom and R1, R2 and R3 are as claimed in claim 1, as well as the novel compounds of formula I and their use for the preparation of photoinitiators for the photopolymerisation of ethylenically unsaturated compounds.

Abstract: Novel compositions for making structured color images and application thereof Compositions for making structured color images comprising (a) a soluble pigment precursor which can be transformed to an insoluble pigment by means of chemical, thermal, photolytic or radiation-induced method, and (b) a binder polymer or prepolymer, or a positive or negative resist-type resin which can be structured by crosslinking, polymerization or depolymerization by applying heat or electromagnetic irradiation. The compositions can be applied to optical and thermal recording, printing, and the production of color filters for Liquid Crystal Displays, with high accuracy, high transparency and high stability.

Abstract: A mixture of at least one thermal carbene-free ruthenium catalyst A and at least one thermal ruthenium carbene catalyst B, both of which initiate the ring-opening metathesis polymerization on their own, said catalysts being present in a weight ratio of A to B from 10:1 to 1:10. By adding this mixture even in small amounts, the ring-opening metathesis polymerization of strained cycloolefins can be effectively catalyzed.
