Abstract: Compositions for the treatment of the skin are provided that contain an extract from plants of the genus Nelumbo. These may include the Sacred Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera), the Yellow Lotus (Nelumbo lutea), and the Blue Lotus (Nelumbo caerula). The extract may be from the seed of the plant. The extract is combined with other ingredients to form a suitable formulation for application to the skin. The composition may include other desirable ingredients such as moisturizers and sun screens as well. The composition may be applied to other portions of the integument as well, including the hair and the nails for enhancing the appearance thereof.
