Patent number: 4876746Abstract: An environmental protective garment, especially for use in "clean rooms", is an at least partly air resistant garment having suitable body seals and an air mover means for providing a negative pressure within the garment when worn. The exhausted air from the air mover means may be passed through a scrubber or filter. Greater wearer comfort is possible than with known suits.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 1988Date of Patent: October 31, 1989Assignee: Coal Industry (Patents) LimitedInventor: Robin M. Howie

Patent number: 4874512Abstract: A filter press cloth hanger for a filter press comprising two arms joined at their upper ends by a pivot bolt which extends through platelike members welded to the tops of the arms. Each arm is similar in construction and comprises the hollow tubular outer wall in which slides a spring loaded rod. The rod carries at its lower end outside the arm a latching plate, which has a keyhold aperture, designed to fit over the end of a suspension member for a filter plate. The rod carriers at its free end within the hollow tubular outer wall, a stop member, which is screwed to the end of the rod and prevents the rod from being completely withdrawn from the tube. The stop is also profiled to prevent rotation of the rod within the arm and bears on one end of a compression spring which biases the rod in the arm. The pivot bolt carries a roller, which can run along a support bar, extending the length of the side bar filter press on which the hanger is to be used.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 1988Date of Patent: October 17, 1989Assignee: Coal Industry (Patents) LimitedInventor: Douglas W. Patent number: 4869591Abstract: Relative angular movement between two linear members is detected by shining light from a light source (11) through a triangular mask (12) in one member onto a mirror (10) in the other member and reflecting the image of the triangular mask onto a linear array of detectors (15). Movement between the two members causes different detectors in the array to be illuminated and the position and number of detectors illuminated determines the X and Y axis of movement to enable the relative angular movement of the two members to be calculated.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 1988Date of Patent: September 26, 1989Assignee: Coal Industry (Patents) limitedInventor: Andrew D. Patent number: 4852562Abstract: A powered respirator helmet comprises a shell, having a passage, between a filter medium, and a fan, mounted in the front peaked part of the helmet shell. An air intake permits air to be drawn by the fan through the filter medium, through the passage and to be exhausted by the fan into the space between a wearer's face and a visor. The helmet is more compact, lighter and less expensive to service than existing respirator helmets, while providing more effective respiratory protection.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 1988Date of Patent: August 1, 1989Assignee: Coal Industry (Patents) LimitedInventor: Robin M. Patent number: 4788853Abstract: A moisture meter and method for determining moisture content in a mass of material is provided. A source of microwave radiation selectively produces radiation having a plurality of different frequencies and directs the radiation into the mass of material. A support is provided for the material, which is substantially transparent to the radiation. A detector determines the emergent intensity of the radiation of each frequency traversing the mass of material and the support. A signal processing unit, responsive to (1) an intensity level of incident radiation directed into the mass of material, (2) a level of the emergent intensity of the radiation after passage through the mass of material and the support, and (3) the selective radiation frequencies, determines a value characteristic of moisture content based upon a slope of a plot of attenuation representing a difference between the intensity level of the incident radiation and the emergent radiation versus each of the plurality of different frequencies.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1986Date of Patent: December 6, 1988Assignee: Coal Industry (Patents) LimitedInventor: John F. Patent number: 4770708Abstract: A settable composition, especially useful in underground mining may be produced by mixing mining tailings with a fine pozzolanic ash, and producing a pumpable slurry, and mixing the pumpable slurry with another composition containing a cement component. Good compressive strength may be obtained while at the same time troublesome or costly disposal of the tailings is avoided.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 1986Date of Patent: September 13, 1988Assignee: Coal Industry (Patents) LimitedInventors: Anthony S. Atkins, David Hughes, Raghu N. Singh

Patent number: 4760513Abstract: A method of and apparatus for controlling the resultant velocity of a member is provided, the resultant velocity being derived by driving the member in two component directions, simultaneously. First sensor means derive a signal indicative of the resultant velocity, the derived signal being compared with a preselected reference signal to derive an error signal constituting a resultant velocity demand signal which is integrated to obtain a resultant amount of movement demand signal. The resultant amount of movement demand signal is selected from `look-up` reference table memory means and corresponding desired values derived for the amounts of movement of the member in the two component directions. The desired values are compared with signals derived from the first and second sensor means sensing the movement of member and error signals are obtained for controlling the driving of the member in the two component directions.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 1987Date of Patent: July 26, 1988Assignee: Coal Industry (Patents) LimitedInventor: John B. Edwards
