Patent number: 9567469Abstract: Provided herein include methods and compositions pertaining to coatings, such as paints, for covering a substrate. In some aspects and embodiments the coatings may include a heat reflective metal oxide pigment that, applied to an external surface of a building (or is applied on a substrate used for an external surface of a building such as an architectural metal panel, EIFS, as a stucco top coat or as a top coat for roofing tiles) reduces the energy consumption in the building. In other aspects and embodiments, provided are textured coatings having a texturing material; for example, methods and compositions are provided pertaining to textured coatings that can be applied robotically or in an automated fashion. In various aspects and embodiments, textured coatings are provided that include a texturing material and a heat reflective metal oxide pigment. In some aspects and embodiments heat reflective coatings for concrete or clay tiles and methods of applying such are provided.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2013Date of Patent: February 14, 2017Assignee: Textured Coatings of America, Inc.Inventor: Jay A. Patent number: 6196055Abstract: A method and apparatus for testing the vapor or gas permeability of a paint, sealant, textured coating or other surface coating. A test block is provided having a porous substrate coated with the test coating. The test block is mounted in a bubble testing apparatus between a pressure chamber and a liquid vessel. Water is provided in the liquid chamber and air is pumped into the pressure chamber. As the pressure of the pressure chamber rises above that of the liquid chamber, a pressure gradient is created. Bubbles can be visually observed in the water filling the liquid chamber if the test coating is vapor or gas permeable.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 1999Date of Patent: March 6, 2001Assignee: Textured Coatings of America, Inc.Inventor: Stuart Haines
