  • Patent number: 11361822
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a doped polycrystalline ceramic optical device includes mixing a plurality of transition metal complexes and a plurality of rare-earth metal complexes to form a metal salt solution, heating the metal salt solution to form a heated metal salt solution, mixing the heated metal salt solution and an organic precursor to induce a chemical reaction between the heated metal salt solution and the organic precursor to produce a plurality of rare-earth doped crystalline nanoparticles, and sintering the plurality of rare-earth doped nanoparticles to form a doped polycrystalline ceramic optical device having a rare-earth element dopant that is uniformly distributed within a crystal lattice of the doped polycrystalline ceramic optical device.

  • Patent number: 11046931
Abstract: An aqueous cell culture medium composition includes an aqueous cell culture solution configured to support the culture of mammalian cells. The composition further includes a synthetic polymer conjugated to a polypeptide dissolved in the aqueous cell culture solution. The synthetic polymer conjugated to a polypeptide is configured to attach to the surface of a cell culture article under cell culture conditions. Incubation of the aqueous cell culture medium composition on a cell culture surface under cell culture conditions results is attachment to the surface of the synthetic polymer conjugated to the polypeptide.

  • Publication number: 20170174564
Abstract: A glass article includes a glass core layer and a glass cladding layer adjacent to the core layer. A coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of the core layer is greater than a CTE of the cladding layer. The core layer has a tensile stress, and the cladding layer has a compressive stress. A retained strength of the glass article is a strength determined after abrasion of an outer surface of the glass article with 1 mL of 90 grit SiC particles for 5 seconds at an abrasion pressure, and a ratio of the retained strength at an abrasion pressure of 25 psi to the retained strength at an abrasion pressure of 5 psi is at least about 0.3.

  • Publication number: 20140124694
Abstract: A method of forming an electrolyte solution involves combining ammonium tetrafluoroborate and a quaternary ammonium halide in a liquid solvent to form a quaternary ammonium tetrafluoroborate and an ammonium halide. The ammonium halide precipitate is removed from the solvent to form an electrolyte solution. The reactants can be added step-wise to the solvent, and the method can include using a stoichiometric excess of the ammonium tetrafluoroborate to form a substantially halide ion-free electrolyte solution.

  • Publication number: 20140086578
Abstract: Multimode optical fiber systems with adjustable chromatic modal dispersion compensation are disclosed, wherein the system includes a VCSEL light source and primary and secondary optically coupled multimode optical fibers. Because the VCSEL light source has a wavelength spectrum that radially varies, its use with the primary multimode optical fiber creates chromatic modal dispersion that reduces bandwidth. The compensating multimode optical fiber is designed to have a difference in alpha parameter relative to the primary multimode optical fiber of ?0.1?????0.9. This serves to create a modal delay opposite to the chromatic modal dispersion. The compensation is achieved by using a select length of the compensating multimode optical fiber optically coupled to an output end of the primary multimode optical fiber. The compensating multimode optical fiber can be configured to be bend insensitive.

  • Publication number: 20130289850
Abstract: A powertrain system for a vehicle includes an engine having a plurality of engine cylinders each having an inlet port and an exhaust port, an intake manifold in fluid communication with the inlet ports of each of the engine cylinders of the engine, and a forced induction system coupled to the engine increasing an intake pressure of air in the intake manifold above ambient pressure. The powertrain system also includes a fuel delivery system supplying fuel to each of the engine cylinders of the engine. The fuel delivery system includes at least one fuel injector per engine cylinder, a fuel tank storing fuel having an intermediate-RON, and an on-board separator separating the fuel into a high-RON component and a low-RON component. The high-RON component and the low-RON component are delivered to each of the engine cylinders of the engine based on an engine operating parameter.
