  • Patent number: 5332876
Abstract: The present invention is a tilt switch that opens or closes an electrical circuit in accordance with the angle of inclination of the switch. The present invention switch includes a housing that defines a hollow cavity. A first sphere, having a highly conductive circumferential surface, is positioned within the hollow cavity. As the switch is inclined, the first sphere rolls to one end of the housing where the sphere contacts an electrical connector. The first sphere electrically interconnects the electrical connector to the housing on which the sphere rests, thereby completing an electrical connection between the electrical connector and the conductive material of the housing. At least one second sphere is also positioned within the housing. The second sphere is sized in relation to the hollow cavity so that the first sphere cannot pass by the second sphere within the cavity. As the switch is inclined, the first sphere rolls against the electrical connector, closing the switch.

  • Patent number: 5209343
Abstract: A tilt switch having at least one conductive weight held within an inert atmosphere within a housing. The weight being free moving within the housing, moving from one end of the housing to the other as the angle of inclination of the housing is changed. At one end of the housing are positioned the contact points of at least two terminals. As the weight abuts against the terminals, electricity is conducted through the weight from one terminal to the other; thus completing a circuit. The terminals may be shaped, or the number of conductive weights increased, to increase the area of contact between the weights and the terminals. The increased surface area results in a more reliable tilt switch that has increased performance characteristics and a higher power capacity.

  • Patent number: 5161797
Abstract: An outdoor billiards table comprises supporting legs, a supporting frame, a playing surface and side and end rails formed from concrete. Main levellers are disposed between the supporting frame and the supporting legs to level the table, and slate levellers are provided along sections of the playing surface for levelling and to compensate for warpage. The playing surface is composed of a mixture of non-shrink construction grout containing graded siliceous aggregate, water reducing agents and fluidizing agents, portland cement and synthetic fibres, and is cast on plexiglass for a glass-smooth finish.

  • Patent number: 4564728
Abstract: A telephone line tester comprises a bipolar LED which has coupled thereto two wires which terminate in a modular plug of the type used on a telephone subset. In this manner the plug is inserted into a telephone jack or receptacle, and if the telephone line is operating properly, one of the diodes will illuminate depending upon the polarity of the telephone lines. The illumination of the diode presents a visual indication to the consumer that the telephone line is operating correctly. In this manner the consumer may save a service call by locating the difficulty in telephone service with the telephone subset on the line.

  • Patent number: 4536727
Abstract: There is disclosed a mercury switch for use in thermostat applications. The switch has a hollow housing fabricated from glass and is positioned in the horizontal plane when in an operating orientation. The switch has a first common electrode within said housing and extending parallel to the horizontal plane with a terminal end extending from the housing. Positioned above the first electrode is a second shorter electrode with a third longer electrode positioned above said second electrode said third electrode being longer than said second but shorter than said first. Positioned above the third electrode is a longer fourth electrode. Essentially, major portions of the electrodes within the housing are parallel to each other. A charge of mercury is in the housing and operates to make contact between the electrodes in four operating modes indicative of thermostat operation for control of a heat pump, furnace and air conditioner.
