    Abstract: A swing-check valve for controlling fluid flow includes a valve housing and a valve assembly connected to a removable cover of the valve housing for rigid positioning of the valve assembly within the interior of the valve housing. Moreover, the valve assembly includes as a modular unit a valve seat subassembly in addition to a clapper subassembly and a spring subassembly. The valve seat subassembly includes a valve seat that is frictionally disposed within a port of the valve housing for controlling fluid flow therethrough when the cover is fastened to the valve housing. The clapper subassembly includes a clapper pivotal between a first position in engagement with the valve seat for blocking fluid flow through the port and a second position for permitting fluid flow through the port. The spring subassembly includes a spring and a spring base engageable with the clapper subassembly for urging the clapper into the first position.

    Abstract: A valve for use in a fluid flow line comprises a housing having a piston chamber with a inlet, outlet, and a vent. An annular outer piston defining a central fluid flow opening is disposed in slidable sealing contact with the housing within the chamber. An inner piston extends axially through the central opening of the outer piston for relative axial movement and is movable in an axial direction between a first position, in which the inner piston blocks the inlet from the chamber, and a second position, in which the inner piston seals the vent from fluid communication with the chamber. The inner and outer pistons, furthermore, are movable relative to each other between an engaged condition, in which the outer piston engages the inner piston to seal the central opening thereof, and a disengaged condition, in which the central opening of the outer piston is open to fluid flow therethrough.

    Abstract: A pressure responsive relief valve assembly for relieving an overpressure condition in a piping system includes a valve and a mounting saddle formed as a unit body with a pipe tapping conduit projecting outwardly therefrom for providing communication between the interior of a piping system and the valve, an opposing saddle, and bolts or other fasteners for clamping the saddles to opposite sides of a pipe. Upon tightly clamping the valve assembly to the pipe, the pipe tapping conduit punctures the pipe wall to communicate the valve with the interior of the pipe. A gasket is provided intermediate the valve assembly and the pipe to prevent leakage. The assembly may thus advantageously be installed on a pipe without interrupting fluid flow therethrough.

    Abstract: An improved fluid supplying and exhausting arrangement for fluid-powered rotary motion actuating devices of the dual piston rack-and-pinion type. A first conduit arrangement includes a central opening through an axial end wall of the actuator housing and a fluid transfer tube fitted in such opening and extending axially through the adjacent piston into the intermediate fluid chamber between the two pistons for delivering fluid and exhausting fluid from the intermediate chamber, with the adjacent piston being slidable on the transfer tube in sealing contact therewith. A second conduit arrangement includes another axial opening in the end wall into the adjacent outward chamber of the housing and another transfer tube fixed to and extending axially through one piston and extending axially through the other piston to open at the opposite ends of the tube into the two outward fluid chambers of the device, with the other piston being in axially slidably sealing contact with the second tube.

    Abstract: A hose connection vacuum breaker backflow preventing device for installation on the discharge nozzle of a water faucet for preventing reverse water flow into the faucet which may possibly contaminate the water supply. The device includes a unitary tubular body defining an unobstructed passageway with threaded female inlet and male outlet connections at opposite ends thereof. An integral shoulder is formed interiorly of the passageway and a pair of exhaust ports open radially outwardly through the body from the passageway upstream of the shoulder. A valve assembly within the passageway is spring-biased into a seated position closing communication between the inlet and outlet ends of the passageway while permitting fluid communication between the outlet end and the ports for draining any reverse water flow.

    Abstract: A locking device for a control valve having a valve body and an operating handle rotatably shiftable between two positions, including a base member mountable on the valve for swinging movement co-axially with the handle and a locking member mounted on the base member for dependent swinging movement therewith and independent pivotal movement relative thereto and normal with respect to the swinging axis. The base and locking members each have opposed shoulders disposed for abutment with respective opposite sides of the handle and the locking member has a depending leg disposed to engage the valve body. Pivotal movement of the locking member permits selective swinging of the device. Upon abutment of the appropriate shoulders of the device against the side of the handle intermediate its two positions, the locking member is pivoted downwardly onto the base member to simultaneously engage the valve body with the depending leg, thereby to lock the handle against rotation.

    Abstract: A check valve having a semi-spherical valve member movable longitudinally in a generally tubular housing between a closed position engaging a conical valve seat and an open position spaced longitudinally therefrom, the valve member being slidably mounted for such movement on a longitudinally extending support element. The opening in the valve member which receives the support therein has a diameter significantly greater than the diameter of the support element whereby the valve member is pivotal thereon so as to seat properly on the valve seat. The center of the semi-spherical valve member is longitudinally spaced in one direction from the effective center of support thereof at the closed position of the valve member, and is longitudinally spaced in the opposite direction from the effective center of the valve member at the open position of the valve.
