Abstract: This invention relates to a novel method of attracting and trapping Drosophila species and a composition therefor. A method of attracting flies in the family Drosophilidae which comprises preparing an attractant which is a combination of a moistening agent, yeast and dried and powdered vegetable matter host substrate, including (but not limited to) banana, apple, pear, papaya, mango, orange, tomato, or vegetables, including (but not limited to) potato and squash, and placing this attractive lure in a trap.

Abstract: This invention relates to compositions of one or more compounds that incorporate one or more allyl sulfide, allyl disulfide or allyl polysulfide moieties, or one or more allyl sulfide, allyl disulfide or allyl polysulfide moieties and one or more hydroxyl groups, used in effective amount in formulations, including emulsions, to repel blood-feeding ectoparasitic arthropods, including mosquitoes, and to deter them from landing and feeding when applied to the skin, clothing or environment of animals, including humans. Said compounds can include, but are not limited to, 8-allyl-sulfanyloctan-1-ol. This invention also relates to compositions comprising one or more of said compounds in further combination with other arthropod repellent and deterrent compounds, including vanillin. These compounds may be formulated with inert ingredients to form a liquid, gel, paste, soap, spray, aerosol or powder.

Abstract: According to the present invention, there is provided a wasp repellent device comprising a suspension member operatively connected to a closed end of a bag. The bag has a skirt extending from the closed end of the bag to a mouth of the bag, with a drawstring for contracting the mouth of the bag to give the bag the approximate shape of an inverted cone. The exterior of the bag is provided with a striated pattern and, in use, the bag imitates the appearance of a wasp nest.

Abstract: This invention relates to a 10-component stabilized synthetic honey bee brood pheromone and methods of stabilizing said pheromone by adding one or more antioxidants, thereby enabling the production and sustained use of commercial products based on that pheromone. The 11-component stabilized pheromone composition formed by adding the antioxidant tertiary-butyl hydroquinone to a synthetic blend of ethyl linoleate, ethyl linolenate, ethyl oleate, ethyl palmitate, ethyl stearate, methyl linoleate, methyl linolenate, methyl oleate, methyl palmitate and methyl stearate can be used in generic or race-specific ratios to manipulate the behavior and improve the performance of worker honey bees, resulting in overall increased vigor of the hive.

The stabilized pheromone can be used to manipulate the behavior and improve the performance of worker honey bees, resulting in overall increased vigor of the hive. The pheromone composition comprises two or more of ethyl linoleate, ethyl linolenate, ethyl oleate, ethyl palmitate, ethyl stearate, methyl linoleate, methyl linolenate, methyl oleate, methyl palmitate and methyl stearate and an antioxidant.
