Patent number: 4424846Abstract: A tread configuration for pneumatic vehicle tires, especially for spare tires. A number of rectangular depressions are arranged in succession and next to each other in the circumferential direction of the tire. Transverse ribs and circumferential ribs separate the depressions from one another and have a width which is approximately 1/4 to 3/4 of the circumferential dimension of the depressions. The radially outwardly located peripheral surface of the tire is subdivided into several segments. The circumferential dimension of the depressions and of the transverse ribs is constant within each of the segments, and the circumferential dimension of the depressions and of the transverse ribs is different in successive segments.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1982Date of Patent: January 10, 1984Assignee: Continental Gummi-Werke AktiengesellschaftInventors: Hans Seitz, Heinz-Dieter Rach, Henner Pieper, Udo Frerichs

Patent number: 4408647Abstract: A vehicle wheel having a rigid wheel rim upon which a pneumatic belted tire is mounted. The beads of the tire contain pull-resistant cores, and are secured by a wheel flange against sliding laterally from the seating surfaces. A recess for receiving a tire bead during mounting of the tire is located adjacent to the seating surface on that side facing the rim middle. The seating surfaces are arranged on the inner periphery of the rim adjacent to a radially inwardly extending wheel flange. The base of the recess has a larger diameter than do the seating surfaces. The mantle surfaces of the rim adjacent to the recess are essentially even or smooth supporting surfaces for the tire zenith or crown portion during emergency operation of the tire. The middle portion of the rim, between the mantle surfaces, is also embodied at least partially as a supporting surface for the tire zenith portion during emergency operation of the tire, and the supporting surface lies essentially at the level of the mantle surfaces.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 1981Date of Patent: October 11, 1983Assignee: Continental Gummi-Werke AktiengesellschaftInventors: Dieter Kuhn, Heinz-Dieter Rach, Udo Frerichs, Henner Pieper

Patent number: 4383568Abstract: A tread configuration for motor vehicle tires, particularly spare tires, with several peripheral rows of essentially V-shaped blocks. The points of the blocks which sequentially follow each other in the peripheral direction of the tire alternately point in opposite directions transverse to the peripheral direction of the tire. Three rows of blocks are provided, and are separated from each other by linearly extending peripheral grooves. The width of the two outer rows corresponds essentially to the axial dimension of a block; in the middle row, the successive blocks are laterally displaced or offset with respect to each other in such a way that the width of this middle row is approximately 1.3 to 1.8 times the axial dimension of a block.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 1982Date of Patent: May 17, 1983Assignee: Continental Gummi-Werke AktiengesellschaftInventor: Henner Pieper

Patent number: 4315788Abstract: A method of producing endless drive belts of natural or synthetic rubber with thread-shaped embedded strength carriers which preferably extend in the longitudinal direction. This method relates especially to multiple V-belts and similar belts having longitudinal ribs extending continuously over the inner periphery or circumference thereof. A raw belt member is built up in upside-down sequence of layering, and is placed into an outer form or mold, in which it is formed-out and vulcanized. The belts are then turned or folded or rolled over into the use condition thereof. The raw belt member, which is produced oversize with respect to the outer form or mold, is retracted, pulled-in, or drawn-in to an outer diameter corresponding to the smallest inner diameter of the outer form, and is expanded within the outer form to, or essentially to, the original outer diameter thereof.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 1979Date of Patent: February 16, 1982Assignee: Continental Gummi-Werke AktiengesellschaftInventor: Hans Menell

Patent number: 4287929Abstract: A pneumatic vehicle tire with a pull-resistant belt which extends essentially over the width of the tread and essentially stabilizes the tire body against lateral forces. The tire also has a reinforcement in the tire sidewall consisting of cord fabric layers, whereby the externally located cord fabric layer has a greater expansion, elongation, or elasticity than the cord fabric layer which faces or is directed toward the tire hollow chamber. Furthermore, the cord fabric layer of smaller elasticity is guided from bead to bead and is there secured or anchored by being looped around the bead cores. With at least approximately radial positioning of both cord fabric layers of the tire sidewall, the externally located cord fabric layer extends only from one bead to an adjoining tire shoulder, and in this region the edges of this cord fabric layer are arranged between the cord fabric layer which is guided from bead to bead and the edge of the belt.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 1980Date of Patent: September 8, 1981Assignee: Continental Gummi-Werke AktiengesellschaftInventor: Heinrich Huinink

Patent number: 4233259Abstract: A method of and extrusion press for producing profiled strands from elastomeric material, especially undulated edges, for conveyor belts, including a linear base and a ridge placed on the base. Portions of the strand change direction along its length. The extrusion press method is used, and different flow velocities are imparted to the elastomeric material at different portions of the cross section of the strand. The extrusion press is equipped with a nozzle plate having profile openings corresponding to the cross sectional shape of the desired profiled strand. On that side which faces the press equipment--including wormgear, piston, and rollers--the nozzle plate is equipped with approach surfaces, which lead to the profile openings at angles inclined to the direction of extrusion, and which have different lengths in different cross-sectional regions of the profile openings.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 1978Date of Patent: November 11, 1980Assignee: Continental Gummi-Werke AktiengesellschaftInventors: Udo Pietratus, Fritz Rothemeyer
