Abstract: The modular electrical wiring device includes an electrical wiring device and an external plug that is electrically coupled by one or more wires to the wiring device. The modular plug is releasably coupled to a connector in a male-female relationship. Both the modular plug and connector include internal contacts for electrically coupling one to the other. The connector is electrically coupled to and terminates one or more building wires, which are used to provide power to one or more of the wiring devices. The external plug is removably coupled to the connector to provide electrical power to the wiring device by establishing and electrical pathway from a source of electrical power, through the building wires, the connector and the modular plug to the wiring device.

The modular plug is releasably coupled to a connector in a male-female relationship. Both the modular plug and connector include internal contacts for electrically coupling one to the other. The connector is electrically coupled to and directly terminates one or more building wires, which are used to provide power to one or more of the wiring devices. The external plug is removably coupled to the connector to provide electrical power to the wiring device by establishing and electrical pathway from a source of electrical power, through the building wires, the connector and the modular plug to the wiring device.

  • Publication number: 20100155991
Abstract: A bushing can include a shoulder, a ring, and a ground shield. The ring can be arranged circumferentially around a first outside diameter of the bushing, wherein the ring includes a channel. The ground shield can include a semiconductive rubber collar that forms part of an outer surface of the bushing and extends circumferentially under a portion of the ring. The insulative portion can be adjacent to the ring and disposed over a portion of the ground shield. A method of manufacturing the bushing can include placing the ring and the ground shield into a mold, the ground shield including holes therein, and injecting insulative material into the mold to create an insulative layer within a cavity formed by the ring and the ground shield, the holes in the ground shield allowing some of the insulating material to flow therethrough to create the insulative portion adjacent the ring.

  • Publication number: 20080175007
Abstract: A lighting unit includes a housing, a lamp fixture configured to be coupled to the housing, an element extending from the lamp fixture and configured to be received in the housing, and a sealing member defining an aperture for receiving the element therethrough. A periphery of the aperture forms a fluid-tight seal around the element. In another aspect, a lighting unit includes a housing and an enclosure coupled to the housing and configured to define an interior space, wherein the interior space is sealed from an interior of the housing. In another aspect, a method for sealing a lighting unit includes providing a housing, an enclosure coupled to the housing, and an opening in the housing in communication with the enclosure, placing a seal between the housing and the enclosure, and applying a sealing member to the opening to seal the opening.
