  • Patent number: 7485034
Abstract: A ventilating apparatus for a roof having a longitudinally extending ridge member and a vent opening substantially co-extensive with the ridge member, that in one embodiment includes a vent member mounted above the ridge member and extending longitudinally along the length of the vent opening, the vent member including a plurality of vent passages communicating the vent opening to ambient atmosphere; and the vent member including an upper wall, a pair of side walls, a pair of lower walls, and a pair of flexible mounting flanges that provide an adjustable mount to the roof on opposite sides of the vent opening. The vent member can accommodate vent openings of different widths. The ventilating apparatus also includes a capping structure extending longitudinally above the ridge member, covering the ridge member and the vent opening so that air ventilating from the vent opening passes within a space between said capping structure and the roof.

  • Publication number: 20070072539
Abstract: A ventilating device for a roof having at least one vent opening. The ventilating device includes a cover extending along the vent opening. The cover may include two plies of material, a top ply and a bottom ply that are spaced apart by connecting members extending between the plies. The ventilating device may also include coiled members extending longitudinally along the cover on opposite sides of the vent opening to support the cover over the vent opening. The coiled members may have spaced coils defining passages therebetween to permit venting of the structure through the vent opening and the passages defined by the coils. A portion of the bottom ply of material of the cover is removed, where the coiled members are attached to the cover. The ventilating device may further include at least one air-permeable filter member to inhibit moisture and debris from entering in the vent opening through the passages.

  • Patent number: 6598356
Abstract: A roofing ventilation system for a metal building. The system includes a compressible seal between a corrugated sheet metal roof and a roof vent of the system. Further, the present invention utilizes an insulating block having venting capability in order to allow moisture and hot air in the roofing system to escape, thereby reducing corrosion of the metal roof and deterioration of the insulating ability of the insulation material. In one embodiment, the system includes a shield between the insulating vent block and insulation material, such that insulation adjacent a compressed area of material does not obstruct the air passages of the insulating block. In one embodiment of the present invention, the compressible seal is a sealing strip that conforms to the profile and shape of the corrugated roof. The sealing strip is formed from an open-celled foam material and has a plurality of slits to provide an environmental barrier across the length of the corrugated roof.

  • Patent number: 6589113
Abstract: A ridge vent assembly extends along a roof ridge of a building. One embodiment has corrugated plies defining small diameter passages that communicate a vent opening cut along the ridge of the roof with ambient atmosphere. A moveable valve member extends along the outer edge of the vent parts and includes a lift spacer to keep the valve member spaced from the roof when in an inactive position. When wind speed increases above a predetermined wind speed, the movable member moves into a position adjoining the edge of the vent parts and the bubble is compressed against the upper edge of the corresponding vent part, thereby preventing entry of wind driven moisture and snow into the passages and into the building structure through the vent opening. Accordingly, the moveable valve member acts as a weatherstripping material for the vent. A similar flexible member is usable to weatherstrip windows, doors, and other building openings.

  • Patent number: 6558251
Abstract: A ridge vent assembly extends along the ridge of the roof of a building structure and is provided with multiple plies of corrugated material. The corrugations of the plies define small diameter passages that communicate a vent opening cut along the ridge of the roof with ambient atmosphere. A flexible member consisting of a strip of cloth material extends along the outer edge of the vent parts. The strip of material terminates into a flexible bubble. Accordingly, the cloth strip and bubble act as a weatherstripping material for the vent.

  • Patent number: 6039646
Abstract: Ventilating material for covering a vent opening in a roof consists of multiple panels that interconnect with each other to condense the venting material for transport by permitting it to be folded into multiple layers. A fastening band extends around all but one of the panels and a second fastening band extends around all of the panels to thereby hold the panels together for transport. After the bundle is placed on the roof of a building structure, the second fastener is released to release the first panel, while the remaining panels remain bundled together by the other fastener. The method of creasing and folding the materials to permit multiple ply corrugated material to be folded to form the bundle of venting material is also disclosed. The folding process may also be used, according to still another aspect of the invention, to make a transport container of multiple ply corrugated material.

  • Patent number: 5921863
Abstract: A ventilating device for a roof having a vent opening includes a cover for a vent opening in the roof. The cover defines vent passages for communicating the vent opening to ambient atmosphere. A moveable member mounted adjacent to the passages is moveable from an open or inactive position permitting communication through the passages to an active or closed position in which the moveable member closes the passage to restrain entry of wind driven rain and or snow into the passages. The moveable members are returned to their inactive or open position by the resiliency of the material from which the moveable members are made and/or by the force of gravity.

  • Patent number: 5830059
Abstract: A ventilating cap for the roof includes a cover which is supported over a vent opening extending along the ridge of the roof by a first pair of coil springs supporting one side of the cap and a second pair of coil springs supporting the other side of the cap. Optional foam rubber blocks may be installed between the pairs of coils and also extend longitudinally along the roof to restrict entry of wind blown moisture from entering the vent opening. In another embodiment of the invention, nonwoven batts are retained by the springs to restrain entry of moisture into the vent opening. In still another embodiment of the invention, a deflectable baffle is moved from an inactive position laying on the roof to an active position closing off passages between the coils to wind blown moisture in response to wind velocity above a predetermined level.

  • Patent number: 5542882
Abstract: The ventilating cap for the ridge of a roof includes multiple plies of ventilating material disposed on opposite sides of an opening cut along the ridge of the roof. The ventilating cap includes a connecting ply which interconnects a pair of vent parts disposed on opposite sides of the vent opening. The connecting ply is folded along a crease line, and, according to one embodiment of the invention, includes a groove which extends longitudinally along the connecting ply at the crease line to permit a consistent fold of the connecting ply. According to another embodiment of the invention, the groove consists of two channels which cooperate to form a rib running along the center of the groove. The rib stabilizes the fold, thereby permitting a consistent fold about the rib.

  • Patent number: 5427571
Abstract: A ventilated cap system for use on a ridge of a roof which includes an expandable utility cap to seal over a variably expanding metal roof. In one form a top cap may snap lock over the utility cap for slidable attachment thereto when exposed to deforming forces such as snow or ice. The top cap prevents deformation of the underlying utility cap. Roof panel clips permit uneven thermal expansion between metal panel members.
